I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.
What a pack of sycophants. Standing ovation everytime he speaks. Reminds me of Tiberius before the Imperial Senate, except Tiberius *hated* the flattery and fawning.

Lukewarm reception to the Patriot Act. There were even some Republicans not clapping for it.
And I thought it was mildly amusing when some people clapped in response to "the Patriot Act will expire next year..."

It's traditional, every president gets that kind of response.Vympel wrote:What a pack of sycophants. Standing ovation everytime he speaks. Reminds me of Tiberius before the Imperial Senate, except Tiberius *hated* the flattery and fawning.

You should have seen Bush Sr.'s SOTU after the first Gulf War if you think this is bad.Grand Admiral Thrawn wrote:They cancelled 24 this week for this?
Is there a reason Bush has to stop every few sentences and they have to clap? It makes listening to it rather hard.

It's just the way it happens. This speech is the big one of the year, so they try to make a lot of grand statements. In addition, the President's party tends to get pretty zealous about the whole thing.Grand Admiral Thrawn wrote:They cancelled 24 this week for this?

They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong
But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red
