Steroids? WTF? That came out of left field.

Also, they just showed Tom Brady, for the Colonel. :D

Actually, IIRC any attempts to offer alternatives to SS are blocked by groups like the AARP and such. MSA's are usually seen as a first move away from SS.

They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

Med tort reform is a very good thing. Though, every time I hear "tort" I think of sour/sweet pastries.

His silly promotion of abstinence is grating me. He's also promoting the sanctity of marriage garbage, and the number of people clapping really pisses me off. If this were Parliament he'd be getting boos, but noone boos, they just clap. Stupid fuckers in congress.

.. Releasing the compassion of religious institutions? Codify religious charities into law? Hello Wall, meet hammer. Bye bye, Wall.

Oh, I with you on that. It's just the way he said it.

"If you could send a letter to the troops" gets hardly a willing clap from the armymen there. Some just looked on and then reluctantly clapped. Hahaha.

Huh. Well, I guess I just saw it differently. I didn't see it as pandering to the elderly, just the opposite.

Actually, I think they're not allowed to do more than clap politely. Maybe someone in the military can answer this better.

There is nothing against it in protocal but they do tend to be more reserved than the politicians.

I'm not religious at all but that kind of shit don't bother me.

Overall, OK performance. Less verbal gaffes than usual, and Bush looked more comfortable than usual on stage. I was certainly surprised by some of the domestic initiatives he put on the table.

Either they've heard all this before, or they probably never expected to be sitting there.

Incidentally, I'd be willing to bet the MSAs and the Social Security ownership proposal was an attempt to throw a bone to disaffected conservatives. Good to see we aren't completely ignored on domestic policy.

I found the numerous cuts to a certain Mr. Kennedy were quite interesting.

Damn, you guys already covered most of my observations on this one.

Wow. Nancy Pelosi looks considerably less like a gargoyle than usual.

She brings up some good points... But she sometimes does look like a gargoyle...
