I'm just going by the common definition of major world religion, which to my knowledge is those three religions whose adherents account for just over two thirds of the world's population.

Sunday closing laws, anti-pornography laws, anti-prostitution laws, tax exemptions for churches even when they are so wealthy that they would otherwise be on the Fortune 500 list, anti-sodomy laws, religious exemptions from child-abuse laws, etc. All of these are impositions upon personal liberties or exemptions from rules that apply to everyone else which are caused by church influence, despite the constitutional guarantees against it. Without those guarantees, it would be even worse.
You missed the one that really pisses me off. The preacher/client privelage laws. "I'm sorry, what is said in confesion is confidential no matter how illegal it is."
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong
But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

Do you also object to patient-physician confidentiality? I know you don't recognize the two as related, but as far as the people involved are concerned its about the same thing.

I don't know about him, but I do. What is the ethical purpose which is served by protecting the privacy of, say, a murderer's confession? Future murderers might not confess to their psychiatrists? Doesn't matter anyway, does it? After all, even if the total number of such confessions were to drop precipitously, the fact that we can gain access to them rather than ignoring them (as per the current system) means that more of them would still go to jail.

Conceded. But murderers who go to confession likely feel too guilty to keep their mouths shut in other places anyway. They'd talk themselves into jail no matter what the priest did, I'd guess a good 90% of the time if not more.
And the priests are more concerned with his immortal soul, the existence of which I'm not going to try and debate with you. I only bring it up to point out their motives. You're not likely to get a priest to talk if he thinks that no one else will come to confession.

No, I don't object to patient-doctor confidentiality. A doc is a professional that is over seeing something tangible, like you health. The clergy uses it as a shield to continue its baiting tactic of confession.

You're assuming that the clergy is composed of con artists. That is simply not the case; the vast majority of them honestly believe what they say. Their motives aren't sinister at all. Now you may think that the motives are misguided, but that's not exactly criminal.

No, it has to do with preservation of power. That is the only reason for the clergy/confessor privelage. If the priest doesn't protect what is said the confessor doesn't come back. If the confessor doesn't come back the church doesn't get to save his soul nor get his tithing or contributions.
