Battle of Hoth force sub
The snow speeders are replaced with A-10 Thunderbolt II's, fully loaded and armed (full ammo for gun, full anti-armor missile loudout). The Hawgs are equal in number to the speeders in the actual movie battle.
Would this actually make any difference whatsoever to the outcome of that battle?

Horseman of stupidity
The A-10s would slaughter the AT-STs and any ground troops. Though taking down the AT-ATs would be dificult to say the least. Their best bet would be to use their Maverick missiles against the legs of the AT-ATs to try and knock one out or to drop loads of bombs just infront of the AT-AT to disrupt its walking. Other then that there is relatively little they can do against an AT-AT.

A-10 is nice but it can touch the At-at due to the large turning radius of the things and the -10 Degree weather will play hell with the weapons

Well... The A-10 might have a large turn radius compared to the Snow Speeders, but its one of the most manueverable fighter craft today.Mr Bean wrote:A-10 is nice but it can touch the At-at due to the large turning radius of the things and the -10 Degree weather will play hell with the weapons

They've managed to operate just fine on Alaska, in winter.Mr Bean wrote:Not with that Icing going to be happing pretty quick...Well... The A-10 might have a large turn radius compared to the Snow Speeders, but its one of the most manueverable fighter craft today.
Icing depends on just how cold Hoth really is. You dont run into icing problumes outside of sotrm in the south pole, because theres no water vapar what so ever in the air to build up on the wings.
Given that Hoth is all Ice, I'd expect its similer, so icing should not be an issue.

And do they running Bombing Runs in Alyeska?Icing depends on just how cold Hoth really is. You dont run into icing problumes outside of sotrm in the south pole, because theres no water vapar what so ever in the air to build up on the wings.
The instant they drop ordinance they are going to be kick a few tons of Vapor into the Air NTM whatever the At-Ats are hitting
And yes A-10s have De-Iceing equipment but I don't think they are rated for -10 C of a fine Hoth Summer Morning

Alaska hits -50. I do think that the Elmendorf pilots can deal with it just fine.Mr Bean wrote:And do they running Bombing Runs in Alyeska?Icing depends on just how cold Hoth really is. Now to see if they flew that day
Oh and like I said -10C is for Fine Sunny days which this invasion happens to be on eh?

You guys have any idea how cold these temperatures are? At 56 degrees F below 0, NATURAL GAS liquifies. That's how cold these temperatures are. Just FYI.

Uh, there wasa reson they only assigned 2 X-wings to a transport: they were low on supplies, and couldn't risk losing most-all their x-wings when speeders could slow the walkers down enough.Muad'Dib wrote:My question about Hoth is that the rebels had X-Wings available why didn't they use them, it was obvious from the start that an airspeeder would have no chance against the armor of the AT AT. 4 Proton Torpedoes a piece woulda killed the Walkers

That a MATERAL problem of the metal in the engines themleves, all sorts of seals on fuel lines and what-not crack if it goes below that tempDoes it say whether they can be reconfigured for cold-weather use?
One could probably keep them in heated Hangers(Like at Elf) but somthing to consider when taking preformance into consideration
OAN-I think the Hoth X-Wings where not carring any Torps as far as I know and as I might kindly point out that the Excutitor alone carried two hundred more At-Ats should they succeded in kill the thirty or so around the Base

Yes it seemed the rebels realized killing the At-At's wasn't the priority. They knew how many SD were approaching and how many vehicles each one carried to know that they were doomed no matter what they did.Mr Bean wrote:That a MATERAL problem of the metal in the engines themleves, all sorts of seals on fuel lines and what-not crack if it goes below that tempDoes it say whether they can be reconfigured for cold-weather use?
