Do you think we're going to the moon?

I say we aren't, what do you think?

P.S. Don't say we are because of the political promises, that didn't matter with Nixon, and Bush Sr.

I think so. New funding and NASA reshuffling will be costly to undo. I think congress will just leave it be.

I'll put it up there later, but we never seemed to get many people there before...

I'd like to think we can, but there's no reason to get us there in the meantime.

IIRC, George Bush Sr. talked about going to Mars and a lot of other big flag-waving stuff back in 1988, and that went nowhere.

Nixon said the same thing with a follow up moon mission, and a Mars Mission.

I think the Moon is likely (although far from certain) although I really doubt we end up going to Mars in the near future.

No way. The lack of public support is deadly to any space mission, and there's not much support for this one...

No we are not going back to the moon in the near future. We have the capability but we lack the vital public support and political will for such a mission.

We shouldn't be going back to the moon, since we've already gone there more than enough times.

Going to Mars will require infrastructure support from Moon based. It is cheaper to build a spaceship in moon orbit.

No way; at least not under Bush.

I don't seriously think Bush is any more or less likely to than most presidents. In this day and age we don't have a Cold War race to drive things on so we do nothing. There's been a lot of talk about space programs by both sides but it always falls through we they get asked to pony up the cash.

Junior Bush's plans are a lot more concrete than Bush Sr.'s ever were, though.

I'd say that if Bush is re-elected then we'll return to the moon. I don't think that a manned Mars mission is foreseeable in the immediate future.

I doubt the feasability of this and I think we shouldn't go to Mars as it would be a BAD idea for Bush to get his hands on Shadowtech.

Indeed. A manned Mars mission would not be viable untill key technologies like nuclear propulsion is developed.

Don't you mean put into use, considering that we had 500MW fission rockets since the 60s.. ??
