Huzah!
I have NO idea what the French-speaking peoples' problem is with other languages that are more useful and valuable. Not only is this basically a form of cultural prejudice, but it's also completely ludicrous in that English, Mandarin, and Spanish are all spoken by lots more people than speak French (even without accounting for the French insistence that you speak French well or not at all), and it's clear that far more business is conducted in English and Japanese, and about the same amount of business is conducted in German as French.

I've heard it said that because English is highly adaptable and flexible, it's becoming the most useful language to know on Earth and in the not too distance future might even be "the" langauge of most of the world's population.
Of course, given said flexibility, in the future "english" may not be understandable to us today.

Apparently the French (or at least the Parisans) have some kind of built-in arrogance. My girlfriend was in Paris couple a years ago and she had many unpleasant encounters with the famous "fuck zee rest of zee world" attitude. In shops, on the street...
Why do people with such good artistic taste have to be assholes? Or at least "strange"?
Its funny, Italians, although not in the same way as French are a funny nation too. They build beautiful cars (well, they did that until the 90's, when FIAT bought everything it could). They have marvellous food. But when I tried to order some car parts for my ex-Lancia Beta HPE directly from Italy...well, I just couldn't make them do ANYTHING. Germans...yeah, they were faxing complete parts catalogues the minute after I called them...but Italians...one guy told me he will fax me something...that was like 2 years ago.
I don't have any extensive experience with different nation's people, so I can't really say how it is, but it is strange to say the least. Some French cars are also beautiful (Citroen DS...beauty of a car...)

Well, the French-Canadians have been bitching about unique culture for decades. When bilingualism was made law, the French complained, and then they made all signs in Quebec have to be French, then made it the provincial language of business.... Well, everyone left, but that's besides the point. I like french, speak it fluently, and find it useful in Canada, but there are other, much more common, languages out there.
