Original Movie Idea

Post by Montcalm »

Got inspired by the thread "Action Movie Cliché".

What would you do to make an original movie, and what will the story be?

Civil War in the future (though B5 already did this).

But I would like to capture a real feeling of torn and conflicted loyalties and a leader that's not under the influence of big bad aliens.

One great nation, filled with great people, many who fought and died together faced with a horrible choice.

It woule be about a man who is driven to the edge and must take the law into his own hands. Also, it would take place in a world of some kind.

I'd like an action movie with as few clichés that are prevelant in such movies as possible. Try to minimize the number of times a small group of good guys outguns a larger group of bad guys, the good guys are saved/win because of the incompetence of the bad guys, or things blow up for no apparent reason, and consult professionals to make it more realistic.

I'd love to see a war movie where the protagonists are just ordinary soldiers. They are grunts fighting other grunts. They don't take unnecessary risks, nor do they act macho in the face of injuries. When faced with superior numbers or firepower, they run. When faced with equal numbers, they set an ambush. Only when they have a huge advantage do they attack directly. They aren't jingoistic brutes, knights in shining armor, or jaded damaged people. The politics of the war they fight is never mentioned, even to tell the audience they don't care about it. The backgrounds, personalities and plans of the characters are only presented in a matter-of-fact way, the way they would come up in real life. There is no voiceover or narration, and no dramatic monologues at all. The entire movie is fighting, walking, eating or resting. There's no going into a town or village, no R+R, no fun.

There is no such thing as an original movie. And if there is, it will suck.

I can't reveal any of my ideas ( I have something like 4-10), for fear that some theiving bastard out there might steal them...

:P

EDIT: Okay, here are three of the titles:

"Free Will"
"Love Droid"
Mobile Suit Gundam Live Action Trilogy (not really original, I know, but I still want to make it. :P )

Ok, get this:

My story is about a guy who is a priest by day, but a crime fighter by night. His sidekick is a nun. His weapons are his hands and fists, though occasionally he pulls a Holy Shotgun.

I've been working on a screenplay for a month now, tentatively titled "Gunfighter." Takes place in the near future after a brief nuclear exchange between the United States and Red China leaves the West Coast economically devastated and lawless. While federal marshalls are trying to restore law and order to California, young men and women near Sacremento find gainful employment in deadly, gladiatorial bloodsport sponsored by rising ganglords. Picture a duel where each contestant gets a pistol and 24 hours to hunt down and kill his or her opponent. Well, this is the story of one such encounter.
