Annoying? People talking (especially on cell phones) during a performance of some kind.

Most horrible? Hearing people arguing through the walls of an apartment, especially when it's an abusive relationship.

Linen. I hate the sound linen makes when it rubs against itself, or someone runs their fingernails across it. I use flannel sheets even in the summer because I hate the sound of linen. Every time I hear it it's like someone hit me in the small of my back with an icepick.

A close second is the sound nylon "swishie" pants make when someone's walking in them. That doesn't bother me QUITE so much as linen, but since it's more likely I'll have to keep hearing it, it rapidly gets me to the point where I have to leave the room or go nuts.

Agreed, I was emceeing a grade nine arts night and had to fill up dead air and some d00ds cellphone rang, so I began repeating his end of the coversation to the crowd like a sports commentator.

Most annoying and horrible.

The perpetual beeping sound that some of these new games make. Jesus if I ever hear that game again I'm gonna scream, curl up into a vall, and cry.

Well, for most of friday after hearing a demo of the Beolab 5 monitors, it was the sound coming out of any other speaker.

That aside, I'd have to say it's that bastardization of the fugue from the Bach Toccotta and Fugue in D minor that is on so many cell phones.

I can't stand the sound of liquid being poured into a glass. If it's at the dinner table or something, it's not so bad, but in commercials where they greatly over exaggerate the sound, it bothers the hell out of me.

Commercials greatly overexaggerate every sound they make. I consider it to be particularly egregious noise pollution and avoid the TV because of it.

The reason they make loud keyboards is because it makes sure it actually seems like your doing something. That, and I like loud keyboards (hugs IBM Model M to chest) espeacially ones so well built that I can beat people to death with them and return to typing (Hugs IBM Model M to chest again)

They bastardize the Toccatta, not the Fugue. ;)

The deep rythmic thump-thumping sound that is all you can hear of rock music. It goes through walls, ceilings, ect and makes it impossible to sleep.

Especially after midnight.
For example, suppose I wrote a book that within 30 years of the moon landing millions of people could be duped by bad science and endless hectoring into believing that it didn't happen... nah, can't do that, too unbelievable for a fantasy novel, right?--Terry Pratchett, The new Discworld Companion

The rattleling, banging, and groaning of a steam radiator.

Oddly enough, nails and chalk on a chalkboard don't bother me at all.
