It's a grey area. Now that the mother and son are both healthy, with the gift of hindsight we can see that baby should not have been aborted, but if there was sufficient doubt as to whether the girl would safely be able to deliver the baby, then yes it shoudl have, placing the mother's life over th unborn baby's.

Of course, if we're looking at it like that, the 26 year old should never have had sex with the 11 year old in the first place, that's the step that should have been taken out.

I'd like to point out the article says ALLEGED father. It's entirely possible (I will agree it's not very damn likely) that the alleged father is not the father, and the girl was knocked up by her 13 - 14 year old boyfriend and is blaming the alleged father for some other reason.
I point this out because I have known to many cases of young girls getting knocked up and blaming a much older guy to get there parents off there case, and to protect the real father (I.e a 14 year old girl that blamed her 30+ year old neighber, when in reality, it was her 15 year old boyfriend)

With that being said, I seriouslybt that a 11 year old girl would or could come up with that, unless the child was seriously disturbed.

Hopefully, DNA testing will be conducted to confirm the father. One hand, in the unlikely event the alleged is not the father, is clears his name, and determines who the father is so that can be dealt with. On the other, it would be instant conviction for the alleged father, and they could also force child support to boot

this is just some seriously messed up shit. i recall reading something awhile back about a similar incident, involving 2 9 year olds that were fooling around and the girl involved happened to get pregnant. the families were extremely traditional, refused an abortion and insisted the two children get married.

That's kind of irrelevant, don't you think?

I mean, the child was born healthy, and as far as we know the mother didn't object to having the child (though we do know that the parents objected to an abortion). Which means that if anyone answers 'yes' to this question, they may well be arguing for the arbitrary killing of otherwise loved and wanted children.

In that respect, the question is at best inflammatory.

Speaking of the 5-year old, wasn't there a case where an 8-year old in central America got pregnant by her fiancé, and the Catholic Church forbade her to get an abortion? I seem to remember there being a thread on here a while ago about that.

In the United States, posessing a gram of crack cocaine gets you jailed for a minimum of five years, IIRC.

Unsupported statement. We know that Catholic priests in the past have sexually molested children, and unless you can bring up a case of an atheist Communist party chairman doing the same, you're taking a shot in the dark.
