Nah, I've already read the book, and while it wasn't very good, at least I understood the words. And why the hell would someone make a movie in a strange language without subtitling it? It's like those funny things they do on TV when they interview some guy and then subtitle what he's thinking. Only this time it's the other way around and without the subtitles. They're just making the words up and don't want anyone to know!! That's why they don't have subtitles! Eureca!! :P

The movie does have subtitles.

Oh good...glad he finally saw some sense into doing something that would make it easier.

Still not inclined but for those who aren't avid aramaic speakers at least they can enjoy it.

Gibson's dad was part of a Catholic organization that was virulently anti-semetic and was definetly radical fundie. Whether Gibson is one or not raises the thorny issue of visiting the sins of the father on the son.

Would have been funny if they got Rob Halford for the part...

Anyway, i'll be seeing this film, firstly because it looks like a good, if not interesting film, and secondly because theres a big fuss over it that i'm sure is greatly unpreportional to what is warranted.

The aramaic language shouldnt be a problem--the film was constructed with this in mind, so it plays out as a silent film, which is something i find utterly fascinating. A story told visually. great stuff. I had heard that Gibson was considering putting subtitles in key sections of the film but i hope this isnt true--though i havent seen the film to be fair, so maybe it needs them.

Anyway, im fairly excited about this film, and i'm a strict atheist. I'm sure there'll be LOTS of people upset over this film, and it'll probably end up making huge sums of money just because everyone will want to see what the big fucking deal is about (and i'm sure will be dissapointed when they find the film is nothing to take up arms in defence against).

Mel Gibson's father does.

But supposedly on the matter of religion there's a considerable difference of opnion between the father and son. So I think it's particularly unfair to assume that Mel Gibson is a carbon copy of his father.

Actually, in "The Passion of Christ" the Devil is depicted in female form.

BTW - I see the fact the choice of Aramaic and Latin for the dialogue marks a triumph for historical accuracy. I can only hope that the upcoming King Arthur film will be in Welsh.
