My university did too. But when I got out, I had to work with Imperial units because that's what industry demanded.David wrote:I suspect things are moving along at good pace, considering that all the colleges now require that everything be done in SI units.
We use the metric system in everyday life in austria exept kelvin, because it sucks to use it in everyday life.(we use Celsius)The Farenheit scale is going to be tough. In everyday life you can use such a large amount of it's scale I've heard some people argue that it is more useful scale because of it. Maybe not for science but everyday life.
I don't know anyone who uses Kelvin in everyday life anyway. It's a science unit and it's far simpler to use Celsius (not that crap Farenheit).Luzifer's right hand wrote:We use the metric system in everyday life in austria exept kelvin, because it sucks to use it in everyday life.(we use Celsius)The Farenheit scale is going to be tough. Kelvin is simply an offset from Celsius/centigrade (or vice versa, depending on how you're looking at it) where zero corresponds to absolute zero.Luzifer's right hand wrote:We use the metric system in everyday life in austria exept kelvin, because it sucks to use it in everyday life.(we use Celsius)
Imperial sounds so much cooler. Also Id much rather drive in miles Per Hour, Kilometers are wussy. Otherwise I'm all for the metric system, My weight would drop to about 100, and my Penis would grow to about 20!Darth Wong wrote: Wait until you get into industry. There are hundreds of billions of dollars of equipment out there with Imperial specifications, Imperial spare parts, etc. That's a lot of inertia to overcome.
Are you willing to pay the extra price to wholly convert the US from Imperial to Metric?Einhander Sn0m4n wrote:The USA will switch to metric when they stop worshiping the Almighty Dollar wholesale, bar anything else (including basic human rights too). Volume in Imperial is pretty easy, it's base-2. Horsepower is power, so that shouldn't be too hard anywaysSpanky The Dolphin wrote:I hate the Imperial system. Fractions in base-12 are just stupid. And I still don't know what the fuck horsepower, foot pounds, and all those other shit are because their names don't describe their units.
