if you're so drunk that you can't coherently get from one club to another by yourself, then you shouldn't be out on the town.
i think technically being drunk in public is illegal over here as well. but no one gives a rats ass. i can remember one case in which someone was brought to court for being intoxicated and that was because he apparantly vandalized but for some reason it couldn´t be proved. sort of a dubious thing.

doesn't make being shitfaced drunk in public any less repugnant, but it could be just a culture difference. not to mention potentially a safety hazard. in the states they actually do pick up people who are lurching around drunk. it might vary from city to city though.

well, so how drunk do you have to be to get arrested? do you have to be tumbling around, or at least not be sober enough to walk completely straight? or is it enough to be talking like, you know, the way drunk people talk?

hmm... probably. personally i dont find it repugnant but rather amusing esspecially when they´re drunk and it´s still broad daylight.
not to mention potentially a safety hazard.
well, i don´t know about that. probably not more of a safty hazard than the average rollerblader.

wouldn´t that really encourage people to drive drunk? think of it like this: you went to a bar or a club by car, got drunk and don´t want to spend your cash on a cab. or you´re out of money and can´t afford a cab. you live within walking distance, say half an hour walking. you know they might bust you for being drunk in public so you take the risk and go by home by car.

there's breathalizer tests with limits on how much alcohol someone should be able to consume. don't they have breathalizers where you live?

more likely to

except of course driving drunk is a major safety hazard that can endanger someone's life. if they're out of money and can't afford a cab then they can call a friend. and really, spending a night in jail for being drunk is a helluv alot better than getting possibly much longer jailtime and having their license revoked for drunken driving. which carries a much steeper penalty than public drunkenness.
