How would you improve a Mon Calamari Star Cruiser?

First paint it black then get ride of the Hanger bay for more power add 8 more Htls and then put a 100 fighter defensive lasers thens upgrade the Shields to twice the defensive capabilty. Then a sickle and hammer hood ordament.

Add more HTLs, remove hangars to add structural intgrity, fighters can tag alongside, or dock in other ships.

Paint it with bright yellow and blue stripes, punctuated with purple polkadots. The enemy gunners won't be able to look directly at you, much less aim.

I think Al is right. The MonCals were able to fight at point blank range with ISD's. Throughout the entire space battle in the ROTJ I don't remember seeing an ISD destroy a MonCal. There are a few scenes of MonCal's kicking the crap out of ISD's though. The only MonCal's that I saw destroyed were destroyed by the Death Star. The MonCals (at least Home One) were larger than the ISD's and they could take more punishment. At the same time, they could destroy ISD's even though they were heavily outnumbered. The MonCals are great ships. Even the Executor's shields couldn't stand up to Home One. Home One may have had other cruisers and corvettes supporting it though (it has been awhile since I have read the novelization of ROTJ).

The Mon Calamari probably don't have very many ships, but the ones they do have are awesome.

And as he was in command of the Fleet, I think we can safely say that most, if not ALL of the Rebel Fleet were shooting at the Executor.

I decided to look at the novelization to determine the composition of the Rebel forces that were attacking Vader's command ship.

Quote from page 461 of THE STAR WARS TRILOGY by Del Rey Books.

"...Followed by hordes of Rebel fighters, followed by still massing but disorganized array of Imperial TIE fighters-while three Rebel Star Cruisers headed for the huge Imperial Super Star Destroyer..."

The next relevant quotes are found on page 463.

"Ackbar stared wild-eyed out the observation window. he was looking down onto the deck of the Sper Star Destroyer; only miles away. Fires burst over the entire stern, and the Imperial warship was listing badly to starboard. 'We've knocked out their forward shilds,' Ackbar said into the comlink. 'Fire at the bridge.'

Green Leader's group swooped in low, from bottomside, up from the Death Star. 'Glad to help out, Home-one,' called Green Leader. 'Firing proton torpedoes,' Green Wing advised. The bridge was hit, with kaleidoscopic results..."

It appears that three Rebel Star Cruisers + a wing of fighters were engaging Vader's command ship. That suggests that the MonCals are excellent warships if three of them were able to knock down the forward shields of the Super Star Destroyer. Based on the movie + the novelization, it is not reasonable to say that the entire Rebel Fleet was attacking the Executor. A handful of MonCals + several fighters were sufficient to severely damage it.

First of all, I'd try to improve the looks of it so that it doesn't look like something you would find in the toilet bowl of a gas station bathroom. Then the usual enhancements; more guns, more sheilds more armour, yadda yadda yadda.
