It seems like not all the bullets activate the thing. So it still is random. Just based on whether it's a live round or not.

That's sometimes known as Polish Roulette. As for this thing, I don't see a cylinder to spin, so it can't possibly be fun.

My guess is that one bullet activates the gun, while the others do not. So it's still got the randomness that was the fun part of the real game.

And the thing looks like a girl's hairdryer.

Remember this is the same culture that unleased End of Evangelion on its children. If they can watch that and not pick up a real gun then I wouldn't worry to much.

Several years ago, a Taiwanese air conditioning manufacturer used images of Hitler in some of its print ads, which rose many complaints from international Jewish groups until the company withdrew them.

But that's partially because there are a lot of people in Taiwan that think Hitler is someone to admire as a leader.

I'm not 100% sure it was Taiwan, but I know that it sure wasn't Japan.

It was Taiwan. Cartoon Hitler was the mascot for a line of air conditioners. It was pulled after a short while though.

The catch phrase was something about Hitler declaring war on the Cold Front.

Japan doesn't have a gun culture, so there's very little chance of some kid picking up a real pistol and ventilating his braincase after seeing one of these on TV or in a toy store or something.

Still, it strikes me as a stupid idea.
