Unselfish Dad moment

Post by Stravo »

As an addendum to my selfish dad moment 2 weeks ago when I seriously considered flat out lying to my daughter about Brother Bear being sold out in order to avoid the pain of watching it I wanted to add this moment so people don't start saying: "Gee that Stravo sure is one selfish son of a bitch when it comes to his child. Now if only he's get off his lazy ass and write another chapter of Starcrossed."

A vendor whom I use to make copies for my case in order to thank me for throwing alot of work his way these last few weeks tells me that I can pick any show in NYC and he would get tickets for me. He said it didn't matter what show it was.

I instantly said without hesitation: "I could use tickets for Sesame Street Live" My daughter had mentioned to me that she really wanted to see it. He smiled and said I would have tickets by next week.

Not so selfish eh?

I would rather gouge out both my eyes with spoons than see Brother Bear, but then, I don't have kids so I expect that to change...

Thankfully there was a snow storm that day so I promised her that we would see a movie this weekend. Guess whats not playing in any theaters nearby? Brother Bear. Guess what she told me she wanted to see when I spoke to her tonight. Return of the King. Win win for me and I never had to suffer through that best "Picture Nominee" and my conscience is clean.

What's the big problem with Brother Bear? Roger Ebert gave it three stars.

Have you seen it? Did you hate it? Or did you just decide, sight unseen, that it is too "uncool" for you? If my kids asked to see Brother Bear, I'd take them. I don't see what the problem is; you make it sound like two hours of torture.

Is it that difficult to sit through a children's movie? I took my kids to see "Elf", and I didn't feel like I was getting a root canal.

Actually Brother Bear was very watchable ... no Shrek, but hardly painful.

Saying that Roger Ebert gave a movie 3 stars doesn't particularly say that much about the movie.

I have no interest in seeing it. The previews make it look liek a mushy mess teaching you to love animals because he is now a bear and the jokes were unfunny (in the previews) and Phil Collins sings the soundtrack. I instantly flashed back to Tarzan one of my unfavorite Disney movies.

My daughter's tastes in movies mirror my own but Brother Bear was something I just did not want to see. Can't explain it, just a viosceral reaction.

Went to see Brother Bear (mainly cos it had moose in it and my two female friends here were wanting to see it, Disney is usually good student fodder), I found it very similar to the Lion King in places, nothing startling, probably one of the worst disney films I've seen recently, but the quality is usually pretty good, off the top of my head, I can't recall really feeling apathetic towards any Disney film I've seen in the past few years save this one.

Maybe some parts of Lilo and Stitch, and a bit of Treasure Planet (but only for being formulaic, the artwork and ship designs more than make up for it).

Ah good man...Sesame Street Live can't be all bad...well can it?

Still she'll be very happy and thus hopefully will have you expunge BB from your mind.

And who knows...it might be good...unless it's the new current Sesame Street, dunno always loved the old stuff.

Everybody....

Sunny Day
Sweepin' the clouds away
On my way to where the air is sweet

Can you tell me how to get,
How to get to Sesame Street

Come and play
Everything's A-OK
Friendly neighbors there
That's where we meet

Can you tell me how to get
How to get to Sesame Street

It's a magic carpet ride
Every door will open wide
To happy people like you--
Happy people like
What a beautiful

Sunny Day
Sweepin' the clouds away
On my way to where the air is sweet

Can you tell me how to get,
How to get to Sesame Street...

How to get to Sesame Street

How to get to...

One more time for Stravo. :D

I happen to be one of the minority on this board who is actually older than Sesame Street. IIRC it first aired in early 1970
