I'm undecided, though I'm leaning towards Carolina because the pats have not shown the capabilites of beating a half-decent team by a decent when they are away from Gillette Stadium, and in the freezing cold.

I will bet everyone that the winner of the Super Bowl will be whoever scores the most points, and they will win by the number of points they scored minus the number of points their opponent scored.

Oh, wait, you mean that I have to give teams and numbers? Then I have no idea.

How in God's name can anyone pick the Panthers on Sunday? That's just plain silly. The pats have won 14 in a row.

IN A ROW!!

Their defense hasn't met an offense that can handle them yet, except in Indianapolis at the beginning of the season, and on a rematch Peyton Manning was intercepted four times, three times by Ty Law, in a blowout.

The NFC All-star team couldn't beat the Patriots on Sunday.

Yeah, that's right. I said it.

Meh, 9 out of 10 times the Super Bowl is a fucking ass kicking. I see no reason why this year will be different. Granted, I'd like to see a 'nail biter' but I doubt that it will happen.

Pats by 17.

Except 10 of those wins were by a touchdown or less, a sign of luck not quality.

Eh, no. Pats are good, Pats have a great defense, but that much of a blow-out against a defensive team that beat the crap offensivley out of the leagues first ranked defense? Not a chance. I see a close game, going either way, and it's either going to be a really high scorer, or a really low scorer.

Call the goal-line stand against Indy luck.

I'll agree with you on the running game, but our passing game is as good as anyone's. Brady consistently puts up fantastic numbers. What you're looking at are the receivers' numbers, and the reason those are so low is because Brady throws the ball to 8 different receivers during the course of a game, and they all get about the same number of touches.

Besides, you name a cornerback in the league, never mind on the Panthers, that can catch up with Bethel Johnson, Diedric Ward or Dion Branch.

Or flip the coin. Name a receiver who can get by Ty Law (Who's Marvin Harrison??) or Rodney Harrison. The weakest link in the Patriots' secondary is Tyrone Poole, and he has six interceptions, 57 combined tackles and 20 pass defenses on the year!

The only chance Carolina has to win is if they take out Teddy Bruschi AND Ted Washington early and have a killer running game. While I love Willie McGinest, he's no good at the contain game. Even then you STILL have to deal with Richard Seymour and Rodney Harrison, who have combined for 10 sacks and 176 tackles this season.

On top of that, you STILL have to try and make Brady scramble, and if you can tell me who on the Carolina DL can get past the likes of Matt Light and Damien Woody, not to mention Christian Fauria who is a viable receiving threat as well, I'll consent that small victory. Even when scrambling, Brady has pinpoint accuracy. He hasn't gone a game without throwing a touchdown pass since November 16th against Dallas, and that was coming off a bye week so he was a little rusty. He has almost 3500 passing yards on the season, averages 7 yards per pass, and was sacked over 40% less than his 2001 Superbowl year. He's doing all this while throwing the most touchdowns in a single season in his career, having fewer sack yards, more yards per pass, more passing yards, and, get this, MORE TOUCHES!! He is hotter than he was the last time he went to the big game, and he will be unstoppable on Sunday.

Case and point.

It seems that Panthers are more and more able to control the clock and have a more organized offense, not only by running with Stephen Davis but with the passing game as well. As much as I'd like the Carolina Panthers losing in a blowout in the Superbowl after winning games against the Buccanners by blocking an extra point and winning in overtime, Carolina will most likely win in a close game.

No, it's called good defense AND good luck.
Except their offense, which is almost non-existant, with a mythical running game to boot, can't do jack shit.
You ignore something simple though. Carolina has a good D-Line, and the Patriots have absolutley no rushing game. Thus Carolina plays pure coverage with an occasional Blitz, and the result is a much slowed Pats offense, probably good enough to win but not good enough for a blow-out.
Besides, you name a cornerback in the league, never mind on the Panthers, that can catch up with Bethel Johnson, Diedric Ward or Dion Branch.

Ricky Manning. Of course because he's a rookie he'll get beat, but he's skilled enough to make the big plays enough times to make a difference.
Stephen Davis.

No, the chance they have of winning is by simply holding the ball for longer, and engaging in a game of possession. It'll be a close game but this is exactly what Carolina wants, and exactly what it can play too.
On top of that, you STILL have to try and make Brady scramble, and if you can tell me who on the Carolina DL can get past the likes of Matt Light and Damien Woody, not to mention Christian Fauria who is a viable receiving threat as well, I'll consent that small victory.
Woody is out, torn ligament I think, meaning they'll have two back-ups in the line. And the player who could get by? Kris Jenkins, and Julius Peppers. Brady won't be on the coals, but he will be pressured constantly.
Even when scrambling, Brady has pinpoint accuracy. He hasn't gone a game without throwing a touchdown pass since November 16th against Dallas, and that was coming off a bye week so he was a little rusty.
BWAHAHAHAHAHA! What just happened last week? A Bye Week! Anyways he wasn't playing a good defense before, and he had a craptacularlly easy schedule most of the year. He's going up against a good team now, especially not the Colt "a Score a Drive" defense (where the colts could have tied if not for the two pass interference calls, in a row.)
Except they played an easy schedule this year. Further more the sacks should be credited to the offensive line, which is now hurt, and the fact that they have no running game, and are playing a good defense means it's going to be a close game. Can the Pats win? Sure, but it's not a gimme victory.

Straha, New England beat the three best teams in the NFL. (Philly, Tennesee and Indy) Hell, they beat Tenesee and Indy TWICE! Twice!!! One win i can chalk up to luck, but beating them Twice? BAH!

Carolina's road to the playoffs included Dallas (ohhhhh! ahhhhh! ) Green Bay, and A Phily team that was worn down and lost its marquee player in the 2nd quarter. Don't get me wrong, they are a good team, but they are not even the best team in the NFC. <sigh> Oh how Philly would have been a more worthy foe. But hey, i've a case of Heineken on the game. straight up, no spread. yum. i'll be stocked for next weekend.

Hey, I'm not saying they're going to lose here, I'm rather favorable to them (no matter how much I hate them for what they did to me that one night) winning the game. But I think it's stupid to say their going to win a blow-out when most of the best teams they played had an absolutley shitty defense. Further compounded by the fact that you won most of your games (including your away game against the Jets, and how the Indy game should have turned out) by a touchdown or less. Going up against a good team that's a recipe for disaster.
Carolina's road to the playoffs included Dallas (ohhhhh! ahhhhh! )
League's number 1 defensem, and Carolina knocked them absolutley flat on their asses.

They may not be the best team (I will say they are better then the Eagles though, no matter what/who is healthy or injured) but they are one of the best defensive teams. This is going to be a really good, close game. Either a high-scorer, or a low-scorer and it's way to close to call.

I was looking forward to an intelligent conversation about this up until this point:
Straha wrote:Anyways he wasn't playing a good defense before, and he had a craptacularlly easy schedule most of the year. He's going up against a good team now, especially not the Colt "a Score a Drive" defense (where the colts could have tied if not for the two pass interference calls, in a row.)
Emphasis mine.

They played Indy twice and won twice.

They played Tennessee twice and won twice.

They played the Eagles and won.

In the regular season, we lost to KC, the second best team in the AFC, by a field goal. And that was at the low point of the season.

And you're ignoring the fact that since our two losses to Buffalo and KC, WE'VE WON 14 STRAIGHT PLAYING THE BEST IN THE AFC!

We are the best team in the AFC, and the best team in football. Bar none. You tell me how Carolina stacks up.

And you know what's sad? NE is only sending two players to the pro bowl. Huh. Go figure.

Edit: Heh. I guess someone beat me to the punch on this point.

And a couple of those wins must be attributed to the absolutely horrid conditions in which were played, where the other teams weren't used to them.
