Sports usergroup poll

Post by Chardok »

Was wondering....

Since so many of us spam the shit out of Off topic and whatnot with our shameless fanwakery (TM Col. Crackpot industries, inc.) could we perhaps get enough support to start a sports usergroup? I would like to see it, since much of our fanwankery(tm) has the potential to degenerate into flamewars of thermonuclear proportions. No one disinterested in sports need see that! At any rate, Here's the poll, if you are interested, please vote yes!

(Note: It need not be exclusively football/baseball/basketball (american sports) you soccer/rugby/chinese checkers/curling wankers would be welcomed as well!)

It might be tough when we get down to the end of June and all we have going is the middle of the MLB season with several months before any semblance of football is being played. :(

But it'll be nice to know it's there. And who says football fan-wankery need stop after the superbowl, speculation MUST continue to fly about My dolphins chances next year! (Hear the rumor they're trying to pick up Brunnel? Fucking bloody hell....)

Aye, though I would only be really active in it during college football season and during recruiting season.

So far it's looking more like it should be a football usergroup. :D

What kind of football fan are you? That's FREE AGENCY PERIOD. Besides, there are European sports running at that time, so even if the American members don't have much to talk about (and there are baseball fans here), there would still be traffic.

I support this.

I might also add that it may even be a good chance for our european/aussie bretheren to edumacate us silly americna wankers about the glory of Rugby and whatnot. (I still don't know what it means when the two refs walk forward from the goalposts simultaneously and point straight ahead with their forearms parallel to the ground)

I'm a football fan that lives in Arizona. The best team in the state last year was probably NAU. :D Good free agents don't come to the Cardinals. Players leave the Cardinals and then start living up to their potential (at least much more than they did when they were here).

Luckilly Iowa was pretty decent this year. Still needs a little more to get over that hump (please win a Rose Bowl in my liftetime, please, please).

When does NFL Europe play?

Hey, waitaminute? Is this usergroup going to discuss watching golf and bowling? Does NASCAR really count as a sport. Well I guess it is a sport but no one is convincing me that the drivers are athletes.

Back when we first got ESPN they used to air Australian Football. It's been a long time since I've seen any games but it was a pretty cool sport.

NFL Europe plays in the spring and summer, I think. I assume they'd have to be finished by the time training camp starts in the States.

Arena League Football starts this month. Since Philadelphia has a team now, I might start following it. Since the Sixers are stinking up the place and the Flyers aren't impressing me in the least, I need something to do between now and spring training.

I'd say no, mainly because I'm not a passionate enough sports fan to get me to sign up to a sports usegroup, but that doesnt mean that I'm not keeping a loose eye on my home team, or when the FA cup comes round or the Euro competition starts in earnest, I won't be watching and happy to comment on it. Sports is off topic IMO, I'm happy for it to be there, it's not doing any harm as it is. :)

Sure Hell yeah NASCAR counts! Those drivers ARE athletes. You don't drive a car 500 miles averageing 140+ MPH, sweating like that and NOT be an athlete. Touring racing counts, too! Baja racing, Tour De France, any TRUE sports fan wanks to whatever involves competition! (Except curling, That's just stupid.)

Hell yeah, we need someplace to discuss the Tour de France. I can't wait to hear all the bitching and crying coming from Frog-land when Lance Armstrong wins their race for the sixth straight time.

At least some of the Arena League teams start playing on February 8th.

Usergroups are established for subjects that the vast majority of the population has little interest in. I'd say interest in sports is universal enough that a usergroup is not required.

However, I want to be in it if it's created.

You sure they aren't just cross-country truck drivers? Those guys drive long distances and sweat up a storm. Maybe NASCAR drivrs are just truckers that someone put in a car and whispered in their ear, "this time you get to be the Bandit". :D

Eastbound and down, loaded up and truckin'
Ah we gonna do what they say can't be done
We've got a long way to go, and a short time to get there
I'm eastbound, just watch old Bandit run

Keep your foot hard on the pedal
Son, never mind them brakes
Let it all hang out cause we got a run to make
The boys are thirsty in Atlanta
and there's beer in Texarkana
We'll bring it back no matter what it takes

Eastbound and down, loaded up and truckin'
Ah we gonna do what they say can't be done
We've got a long way to go, and a short time to get there
I'm eastbound, just watch old Bandit run

Old Smokey's got them ears on
He's hot on your trail
And he ain't gonna rest 'til you're in jail
So you've got to dodge him, you've got to duck him
You gotta keep that diesel truckin'
Just put that hammer down and give it hell

Maybe not a usergroup but a forum, since lots and lots of people are interested in many different kinds of sports?

And I'd join up (if it was made into a usergroup), to talk about my Packers and my St. Kilda Saints. :D

Given that not all that many people don't like some sport, espically if vehicle racing counted, a private usergroup seems like just a stupid idea. It might as well be an open forum if the demand exists.

I say go for the open forum, simply because anyone who wants to be involved in anything related to sports, or who just wants to check up on what everyone thinks of the team's chances, would either have to apply to the usergroup, or just go without. I think an open forum would do much better, in the style of Fantasy/OSF/N&P

We have enough. The general realistic consensus when somebody suggests a new private group and forum is that we have enough, and I would agree.

Perhaps a public forum, but who wants a forum where every fifth word is "spank." ;)
