Best energy-based sidearm
Assume for the purpose of this poll that you are a standard, unmodded human w/o jedi-powers.
Which energy-weapon would you find most useful for use over extended periods against generic modern day villians?

Either an blaster from Apokalypse Troll or an KNK-Pistol of Perry Rhodan.
Both deliver ( if necessary ) multi-kiloton blasts through an extradimensional channel ( could be called a wormhole ) into the target. The KNK pistol even have the ability to weaken most shields that protect against attacks from other dimensions.

From SW/ST I would chose han solos handblaster as a sidearm, it seemed to be equiped with enough power for most opponents, is not too large and has a efficient design.

Why not a "Kombistrahler" from Perry Rhodan? Disintegration, KNK, paralyse, and simple bullets in one gun.HRogge wrote:Either an blaster from Apokalypse Troll or an KNK-Pistol of Perry Rhodan.

I'd probably take the Zat', provided whatever I had to face was not immune to it, it would let the sadist in me have fun....one hit pain, two hits kill, three hits destroy the evidence....

Too large for my taste... more a rifle than a nice small pistol.Luzifer's right hand wrote:Why not a "Kombistrahler" from Perry Rhodan? Disintegration, KNK, paralyse, and simple bullets in one gun.

I would go for the Zat, or a Culture handweapon of course.

Battlestar Galactica (original) laser pistol, complete with quick draw holster. Alway have liked them.

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

An SW blaster, though I'd prefer a similar weapon that could fire @ c, which the blaster does not.

Then you're screwed big time.SyntaxVorlon wrote: or a Culture handweapon of course.
Culture handweapons require genofixing for recognition as a legitimate user ( TSotA ). Which according to the OP you're not entitled to .
My choice : either E-11 or Zat, can't decide.
I'll go for a F-Lance then, provided I've large effector/ammo/power supply.

Well that depends. If a knife missile were keyed to defend a normal human it would probably work fine. The Nomad wrote:Then you're screwed big time.SyntaxVorlon wrote: or a Culture handweapon of course.

Nope. They're actually remarkably reliable; Hark's didn't ever blow up, and he used it for years.Raxmei wrote:Don't plasma pistols blow up one out of six times? They're pretty powerful, but using them is like playing Russian roulette.

The Force Lance isn't an energy weapon. It is able to fire bursts of plasma or electricity, but its primary use is firing effectors (explosing homing bullets).
That having been said, I think the F-Lance would be the most useful in modern day Earth. To the best of my knowledge, it's the only weapon listed that is able to intercept incoming munitions (up to and including mortar shells, even at hypersonic speeds). If you need to stun an opponent, the Force Lance can do that as well, using an electrical discharge.

I dont know, the Zat's ability to dispose of evidence has got to be of some use in a modrn day setting lest the forces of law and order call round about that pile of bodies on the lawn.

Kricket Battle club.
Operates as kill-o-zap gun and as a grenade arming device that can be used to create explosions ranging from regular AP munitions to star ripping detonations.

Fire once to stun, twice to kill and thrice to dispose of the evidence.
I mean have we ever seen a zat malfunction? run out of energy?
Nor have they malfunctioned in any way that I can remember.
