I'll throw in the Earthforce PPG just on general principles. Plus, it's conceilable as hell.
@Hrogge: They have KNK pistols now? No wonder I stopped reading the stuff.
Though a pistol kombilader sounds nifty...

My favorite is probably the Zat. But I'd prefer to have an E-11 in an actual firefight. The Noisy Cricket would be good for amusement, though.

Doubtful. While people would not neccessarily identify it as a firearm, its presence WILL raise questions. Because its presence is visible (unless we're talking within a trenchcoat). Why, exactly, are you carrying a rubber baton/lightsabre/whatever?Morat wrote:With the F-Lance, you could carry it in plain sight and nobody would know it was a weapon.I'll throw in the Earthforce PPG just on general principles. Because for a sidearm it carries power like nobody's business?I noticed that a lot of people chose the Star Wars blaster pistol. What makes them so useful?

I thought the 'laughing out loud' smiley would be an indication that I wasn't entirely serious.Doubtful. Still, people would raise eyebrows, but I doubt anyone would actually ask you about it. At least where I come from, you could walk around with a pink lawn flamingo and nobody would stop you to ask about it.
But what would you do with that power? The blaster pistol wouldn't be especially effective against people (compared to a phaser on wide beam, a Zat, or a Force Lance).Because for a sidearm it carries power like nobody's business?

A weapon that size is a carbine of submachine gun, it's hardly something you could call a sidearm.Tribun wrote:An E-11 does the job.

Let me guess, game stats?Raxmei wrote:Don't plasma pistols blow up one out of six times? They're pretty powerful, but using them is like playing Russian roulette.
Not to mention there are a number of other characters that used them as a prefered side arm and never had the problem. Though given the Imperium getting them from a quality source would probably make a big difference in their reliability. Plasma weapons are supposedly harder to make than stock las-rifles and what not.Black Admiral wrote:Nope. They're actually remarkably reliable; Hark's didn't ever blow up, and he used it for years.

I think Hark's was a Ryza pattern one, as the plasma weapons built on Ryza tend to be much more reliable, more effective, and generally better than ones built on, say, Gryphonne IV.Shaidar Haran wrote:Not to mention there are a number of other characters that used them as a prefered side arm and never had the problem. I don't give a damn what anyone says, I think a phaser would still be frigging cool. I think the Voyager era hand phasers actually look quite decent. I'd be spending hours shooting things, testing wide beam settings, heat settings, vaporizing things, etc. My ultimate goal would be to have the ability to recharge the sucker, that way I can test the phaser on maximum setting wide beam...see if it actually does take out half a building.

I'd like to make a note that the only big difference between the 29th century phaser and the Voy phaser (pistol grip aside) is that the 29th century one vaporized things faster.Robert Walper wrote:Can your blaster vaporize an entire truck in a single shot?Equinox2003 wrote:Mine is the SW blaster pistol. I'd choose a Zat for the reason that in a home defense situation, if the assailant took one of my family members hostage, I could still subdue him. I'd shoot my family member but one shot doesn't kill and its effect carries over to the assailant which would result in the assailant being incapacitated. I then shoot the assailant one more time to neutralize his threat.

You'd already incapacitated the criminal. This could probably be called excessive force to kill him when he's already completely unable to move.TrekWarsie wrote:I'd choose a Zat for the reason that in a home defense situation, if the assailant took one of my family members hostage, I could still subdue him.
