Small towns suck.
Ok, so this is just a "hi, checking in" type thread.
Right now we're in Colby, Kansas. It is cold as all hell here.
So far in the past few days, I've gotten to see some really cool stuff in places I've never been before. So now the official furthest north I've been in the US is Wyoming.
We went from Reno up to Salt Lake City, UT, then up into Wyoming, over to Cheyenne, and then down through Ft. Collins, CO down to Denver, and over to Colby, Kansas, where we're at now, using the public computers.
So... yeah. And there's snow. LOTS of snow. It's evil.
I hope the board hasn't completely gone to hell.

Hey now, Iowa City and Cedar Rapids aren't that small.Tsyroc wrote:Since you're in Kansas are you thinking of zipping over to Iowa and seeing Spanky and the Gang?
Okay, Cedar Rapids has just over 120K, and Iowa City's ~60K probably drops about 50% in the off seasons, but they're still pretty big out here...

My hometown has a population of roughly 20K people, but it's turning into a suburb of Roskilde....
However, I know somebody who comes from a village with a mere 3000 inhabitants and no stores other than a convenience store! (I thought villages that sleepy only existed in H.P. Lovecraft stories)

It wasn't my intention to suggest that they were. Since he's driving cross country in such a roundabout fashion and when I go to Iowa we always go through Kansas so I thought I'd drop the hint since he's "in the neighborhood".Spanky The Dolphin wrote: Hey now, Iowa City and Cedar Rapids aren't that small.

If he's looking for small towns he could always detour over and go to Wellman or Kalona. Better yet, the Amanas. Make sure to eat at the Ox Yoke Inn.

humbug. i grew up in a village with a population of 289 - 302 (302 being in ´97).Peregrin Toker wrote:However, I know somebody who comes from a village with a mere 3000 inhabitants and no stores other than a convenience store! (I thought villages that sleepy only existed in H.P. Lovecraft stories)
these villages exist and they suck more than you can imagine. they dont have any stores at all. not even a convenience store. nothing. they´re boring as hell and the next town usually has about 15K people. and sucks as well.
it´s great as a kid, but when you hit puberty and want to go out you´re basicly screwed. no discos, no decent bars only crapy shitholes and that one bar which is the only acceptable on whithin 30km tends to get boring after a while. keep in mind that you don´t have a car either which could take you to cooler places because you´re too young.
now i live in stuttgart. it´s cool here.
