This is a very short list of electronic devices that would've been affected by his draconian CBDTPA: http://www.freedom-to-tinker.com/archiv ... _list.html

Found guilty, last I heard - but that may just have been a rumour (which I am now continuing - yay!)EmperorMing wrote:Simon H.Johansen wrote:Who and what is the RIAA??

The RIAA is close friends with the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America), and these two organisations are major drivers behind pushes to:
1. Destroy the public domain (i.e. the thing that lets anyone on the planet sing 'Silent Night' whenever they want), by instituting periodic, retroactive copyright extensions meaning that nothing new ever becomes available for public use in America.
2. Hand control of your PC to someone who isn't you (preferably to them), so that they can go in and look and say 'ah-ah-ah, you made a backup of that CD you just bought! We're going to lock you out of your PC now!)
Firtz Hollings is occasionally referred to in the tech press as 'the Senator from Disney' or "Senator Fritz Hollings (D-Disney)"

MPAA wanted VCRs banned because they were afraid that it would take out a big share of their profits. They now make the largest sums of money due to royalties on TV and money from video rental stores.
The RIAA are scum. I believe that this is the RIAA's plan for dealing with piracy, or at least their pipe-dreams....
Edit: You also should read the next 2 pages...

"No, actually I would HATE to have a cookie, you vapid waste of inedible flesh!"

More likely, they said to the people who don't like 'naughty words': "Look, if we put these stickers on all of the albums containing the normal English language, as spoken by most people who aren't thoroughly indoctrinated into the concept of 'bad words', will you get the fuck off our backs?"Simon H.Johansen wrote:Are they the ones who put "Parental Advisory: Explicit Content" stickers on CDs???
I don't have any real problem with those stickers - they are just providing additional information for the people who care about such things. Now, the people who really care about 'naughty words', on the other hand. . .
Could someone please explain to me why 'copulation' is more acceptable than 'fuck' and 'faeces' is somehow more acceptable than 'shit'? They're just words - what is it that people are afraid of?

It's a question of which words are least understood by laypeople. It's this way that Star Trek writers get away with their cavalier disregard for realism.Nick wrote:Could someone please explain to me why 'copulation' is more acceptable than 'fuck' and 'faeces' is somehow more acceptable than 'shit'?
