Be careful what you wish for. I'm 0 minutes away from 5 million people, and I tried the small-town life for 4 years. Let's just say that I'm back in the city after giving the small-town lifestyle a legitimate chance, and I appreciate the city more than I ever did before.

PS. There are very, very few (if any) small towns which could be described as having a liberal mindset. Small towns are havens for social reactionary thought. Something to keep in mind when you think the grass is greener on the other side of the fence; it is traditionally conservatives who sing the praises of small towns, and not without their reasons.

You could consider "in the middle of nowhere" as a "small town"~ And indeed it stinks. Most people around here have no problem dropping the N bomb in public
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

I live in a city of the best part of a million people when at uni and I can't say I like it as much as my original home in the suburbs. But then I grew up in that place whereas my Dad grew up in Liverpool and loathes big cities now. It all depends on what you're used to.

I've always said that I was born and I will die here in NYC. Sometimes I waver on this when things are hectic and someone offers me a nice paying job in Florida where most of my family are but I have a feeling that this is where I'll stay. This is the best city in the world, we never sleep and there is an energy here that no small town or even small city could ever approach.

Small towns are fun when you're a kid, I grew up in a town of only a few hundred. They're fun to visit too, but having lived in Toronto and other large cities I doubt I could go back to living in my childhood home...maybe when I retire but it's not happening before then.

Best part of a million people? Lancaster? Na, 2001 Census pins it at 133000.

My home town has just over 30000 living in it at last count, but I prefer the larger cities, not the huge ones like London, I like Lancaster, I like Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow as well, you have to go 20 miles down a long straight dual carriageway to get to anything in Cramlington, the cinema, the bowling alley, Newcastle in the opposite direction. Admittedly, the cinema and bowling alley are along a hardly ever policed stretch of road, so my mates have been known to hit 107mph at night when the road is all but empty... silly sods. :)

My home is in a town (not a small town) that is on the border between two cities, Leeds and Bradford. So we're far enough out to have a fairly quiet neighbourhood, but not too far out. Unfortunately we're close enough to bradford to get all the crime.

I'm in a suburb of Boston, and in the largest town in America (Framingham, population, IIRC, 65k)

There's a nearby mall (It's actually in the next town over, because Natick doesn't really pay attention to enviornmental matters as much as Framingham does) but it's right on the town border. I know the owner of the lo9cal comic store (Bedrock comics, his name is Jack) and downtown appears to be populated solely by Brazilians. We've had the National Alliance roll through twice, passing out pamphlets to rile up some support for anti-immigrant laws, but they've been thuroughly ignored.

Ah, the joys...

I live near a 1k town and near an 87k one. The small one sucks ass; the only advantage is traffic is nonexistant. I'd honestly prefer a large city. Houston always seems nicer everytime I go.

I live in a small town, but it's not as backwater as it could be because it's near Tourist Trap Central for upstate New York.
Don't hate; appreciate!

Bah Strav! You don't know what shit you're missing here! And I'm definitely looking at schools in south Florida. Ahh...do I love it? Yes, I believe I do.

I live in our Capitol City. Population ~150,000. Possibly less, as the County we're in is one of the larger Counties with 200,073 as of 2000.

My hometown? Counting the small unincorportated areas around it? ~2000. Great when you're a kid, but as it's been said before, when you hit your teens, it's boring as hell. We'd drive nearly an hour, into the next county, just for something to do, a mall to hit, movies to see.

I love my hometown. One day, when Martin and I are old and grey, we might move there. But for now, give me Charleston. There's just more to do!
