How quickly does the Federation sue for peace?

Post by Straha »

I'm thinking here, the Federation isn't completley stupid so how long does it take them to approach the Empire with a peace treaty (i.e. You give us some automnity and technology, in return we give you data, maps, resources, etc. without resistence.)

And would the Empire accept?

They'd try to work it out diplomatically, and the Empire would laugh in their faces, shoot the ambassador, and proceed to loot and pillage.

When the Federation gets the first inkling of how powerful the Empire's ships are and/or how many there are, they will ask for vassalship. The Empire might well accept, too.

I don't think so. They'd more likely simply take control of the government. Whether they "loot and pillage" would depend on which local Moff was in charge.

Its easier to loot and pillage when you rule the territory. Just call it taxes and levies.

An important question we need to answer is just how aggressive is the Empire to other governments, races, civilizations, ect?

Although a military conquest would be insanely easy a peace treaty is easier and more cost effective. In a conquest resources have to be expended and planets, with harvestible resources, will be destroyed, and if you do that whats the point in conquest?

Or, to put it another way, "you can't tax a debris field" :P

Depending on who's calling the shots, the Fed might get a relatively fair treaty, but if they try any Sisko-esque "fight to the last man" BS, all bets are off

The Federation is in no position to set conditions. But an unconditional surrender might bring an easy peace. The Milky Way Galaxy represents a vast, untouched soruce of resources and untapped market for the Empire's commerce. The biggest problem will be bringing the locals up to civilized technological standards. No point blowing everything up or stomping the citizenry into the ground, though as Mike said, certain Moffs would do it for shits and giggles.

RedImp is right, but the bad end is the Galactic Empire is so different and advanced it may be an Outside Context Problem for the ST powers.

Unless the Federation basically offers to become the Milky Way Corperate Sector, and the Empire accepts, man do they have problems.

Unless

No, wait, that would just make the Imperials MORE aggressive

I think the Feds would probably surrender pretty quickly, and the Cardassians would be kissing Imperial arse within a few minutes... so they'd probably get the best peace deals.... Romulans would probably sue for peace early on as well, but the Klingons would fight to the last (literally, and then they'd be dead).

Well, the Feds shuerly will totally surrender, after a little demonstration. Something like letting a planet go boom in split seconds.
The Cardies will be glad to lick the Empires boots, they won't even need a demonstration.
The Romulans I don't know. Maybe there is some more force needed.
And the Klingons are stupid enough to all die.

How fast would the Ferengi be on there hands and knees kissing ass?
I mean, I can seem the drooling at the prospects of having two galaxies to trade with (pre-Rom as Nagis) at hyperspace speeds, and no UFP to be annoying.

The Orions would love the Empire. Massive slave trade to horn in on. They'd also be absorbed by Black Sun or the Hutts very quickly.

I can see the Hirogen becoming feared bounty hunters (once there ships were upgraded) or getting vaporized

The Dominion would probably see the Founders killed, the Jem'ha'dar wiped out, the Vorta turned into civilian administrators, and life stays the same for the average citizen

no need to say what would happen to the Borg ;)

It depends on who the Empire attacks first. If it's another group, like the Klingons or Romulans, they'll probably surrender right away when they watch how quickly the Empire crushes the opposition. If the Empire attacks the Federation first, I'd imagine the attack would cover such a broad area of operations so quickly that they wouldn't have time to surrender.

Keep in mind that the Imps have reasonably compatible social customs and practices to those of the Federation. The transition would not be that painful, hence it is doubtful that the Feds would put up much resistance, particularly after some humbling displays (such as an ISD bypassing all of their outer defenses and appearing in orbit around Earth, destroying SpaceDock and then delivering an ultimatum to the Federation President).

Even the Klingons would probably surrender. Very rarely do people seriously fight to the death, no matter how florid their rhetoric. It's easy to talk shit when the gun barrel isn't sticking in your face.

I would also keep in mind that it would depend greatly on the person sent to represent the Imps in the Galaxy and timeframe.

Say the Borg attack Earth enmass for once (or the Imperials stage such an attack somehow), then an Executor pops in to the rescue of the Federation offering membership in the Empire, the protection of the Imperial fleets and such. If presented correctly (someone like Thrawn would be good to send) you could gain the UFP as a solid base in the AQ without a shot being fired, then work on integrating them into the Empire slowly. The Federation doesn't have any of the horrible interspecies problems the SW Galaxy has so the Empire doesn't need to expand an amazing amount of resources to keep everyone in line.

It's interesting to note that the Feddies would probably be much better off under the Empire then they are normally. It's likely that the Empire would allow their local governments to retain their politicians and laws within certain boundries (just at Grand Admiral Thrawn did when he captured Ukio) so citizens wouldn't notice much of a day to day difference aside from a local Imperial Garrison.

They would have to pay taxes of course, but this would probably be cheaper for them then the enormous amount of funding that the arms race with their neighbors had been costing them as well as the upkeep on Starfleet (which could be gutted significantly with none of their neighbors posing a military threat).
