Unrequited love, or infatuation for someone

What do you if its someone very close to you?

Dating & sleeping with other chicks kept my mind off it, never thought about it much and it didn't bother me or anything.FaxModem1 wrote:how did you survive it?
Have her somehow end up as your GF and live happily ever after. Unfortunately I have no idea how to do this. What do you if its someone very close to you?

Lusankya: Deal!
Say, do you want it to be a threesome with your wife? Or a foursome with your wife and sister-in-law? I'm up for either.

Had an infatuation that ended in Dec of 2002... I cut it off in my mind when I realized the guy was not worth my time and energy.
Then, the long-standing mild "like" for an old friend decided to turn up that proverbial dimmer switch almost a year ago... fucking emotions always fucking with me. I am going to be really jaded by the time I hit 30. Then yu can all call me "Mr. Bitters"
I manage to survive this sort of stuff by becoming jaded and cynical when not thinking about it. The one two years ago wasnt as bad because he wasnt close to me from the start.
Now, this time around, the person is someone I have been friends with for 6-7 years. Someone who was there for me through the entire period of "growth" in my life going from fundie to atheist, closet case to non-stereotypical queer... *grumbles something about probability and how she is a cruel fickle bitch of a woman*

Inffatuations suck. I had one that lasted like...2 years and I made a tit of myself so many times it wasn't even funny. I the end I realised that she was a bitch when she dumped me for the...er...I can't remember, but it was the last time and that was that.

1) Yep, a few times. When I was 19, 20, and 22.FaxModem1 wrote:have you ever had it?

2) By finding a new object of your affection, love and all that mushy-gushy, fuzzy warm gooey stuff inside of you that you want to fling at some poor victim.
3) Don't hold it in. You really must tell them how you feel about them right away. If you try to hold it in, you'll end up appearing all creepy and scare them away by being all weird towards them. Holding in you're feelings for someone and trying to contain it and ignore it will really fuck up you mind.

Cant agree more. My friend knows how I feel, and if anything our friendshipis better because of it... But probability is still a spiteful WHORE!3) Don't hold it in. Unrequited love doesn't have to be a bad thing. It is something that belongs to you and no-one can ever take it away. Nicholas Cage says it better than I do in the movie Adaptation, but basically your feelings for someone don't have to depend on how that person feels about you.
The best part about unrequited love is that you can have it over and over and over again with as many different people as you like. Once I found out just how much hard work requited love is, I started to appeciate unrequited love a whole lot more.

Yes just about a year or so ago.have you ever had it?
As Howedar said time. Memory will fade in time and the pain leaves.how did you survive it?
Tell the person straight away how I feel. It sucks to keep it all inside. Whether she liked me or not its more painful holding it in.What do you do if its someone very close to you?
I am glad that I did got over it, now we are just friends and without me being in that state.

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

have you ever had it?
Let's say it's not a past-tense thing.
how did you survive it?
I try going after other girls. I preoccupy myself with other things. Sometimes I just wallow in it.
What do you if its someone very close to you?
I grin and bear it.

Sure I have. Twice in high school. I am still good friends with both of the girls. I've basically lost interest in one of them, but the other one still niggles in my head every now and then, but as it stands, I have a rewarding relationship with her. The other one is still a great friend, too, but we've both been busy as Hell recently and haven't had time to talk since we saw each other on New Year's. I've moved on. It's something just about every guy goes through.
Now I'll delve into male chauvinist pig mode for a second and quote The Man Show ... "Let's talk about friendship. The bad kind of friendship. The kind between a man and a woman who aren't boning." Ah ... too true.

Re: Unrequited love, or infatuation for someone
I've had it bad. It was the first girl I really loved and I still haven't gotten over her. Comforting huh?FaxModem1 wrote:have you ever had it?

You never really get over the First One, or so I am told. It's certainly true in my case. The girl I first fell in love with (or became infatuated with) ended fairly miserably, although we're friends now. But not the "best friends in the whole world" type friend - more like the "oh, hey, it's been awhile - like, several months - since we last saw each other..."
I still think about her from time to time, and she's dating my friend. So usually I see her when I see him. Bah! Love. Who needs it? ('cept Darth Fanboy, lucky swine...

Agreed. In my case, telling her would only burden her because she's in love with another guy (engaged to him, in fact).PainRack wrote:Frankly, if it can never be, I rather be silent from this hence forth. One guy suffering is better than a gal and a guy suffering.

All the time.FaxModem1 wrote:have you ever had it?
You wait until it gets better. Eventually you realize that there are better things to do with your time than pine for someone who doesn't like you.how did you survive it?
That depends. If you used to be in a relationship with them, then they've probably made their choice. Refer to above answer. If you're just friends with them, then ask yourself what's more important, staying friends with them, or trying to get them to love you, in spite of all the indicators indicating that they don't want to do so. Then refer to the above answer. What do you if its someone very close to you?
Unfortunately, there isn't a whole lot you can do with unrequited love.
