Dennis Kucinich, Al Sharpton... whats the point?

Post by Col. Crackpot »

Dick Gephardt and Joe Lieberman have the good sense to step down and move on when they know that they have a snowball's chance in hell of winning a nomination. What the fuck is up with Sharpton and Kucinich? Are they delusional? Masochistic? WTF, over? Hello! Earth to Commisar Kucinich! You're getting less than 1% of the vote time to go back to throwing rocks at Starbucks with angry 18 year olds!

Sharpton is in it for the money and Kucinich is staying because the Far left nuts and Greens need someone to cheer for :D

Here is a little background on "Rev Sharpton"
Al Sharpton: The Democrat's David Duke
by Jeff Jacoby (February 26, 2003)

Summary: Sharpton is a vicious liar and a dangerous bigot. As a matter of moral hygiene, his party and the press should be able to say so, too.

After all, Sharpton's résumé is at least as vile as Duke's.

1987: Sharpton spreads the incendiary Tawana Brawley hoax, insisting heatedly that a 15-year-old black girl was abducted, raped, and smeared with feces by a group of white men. He singles out Steve Pagones, a young prosecutor. Pagones is wholly innocent -- the crime never occurred -- but Sharpton taunts him: "If we're lying, sue us, so we can . . . prove you did it." Pagones does sue, and eventually wins a $345,000 verdict for defamation. To this day, Sharpton refuses to recant his unspeakable slander or to apologize for his role in the odious affair.

1991: A Hasidic Jewish driver in Brooklyn's Crown Heights section accidentally kills Gavin Cato, a 7-year-old black child, and antisemitic riots erupt. Sharpton races to pour gasoline on the fire. At Gavin's funeral he rails against the "diamond merchants" -- code for Jews -- with "the blood of innocent babies" on their hands. He mobilizes hundreds of demonstrators to march through the Jewish neighborhood, chanting, "No justice, no peace." A rabbinical student, Yankel Rosenbaum, is surrounded by a mob shouting "Kill the Jews!" and stabbed to death.

1995: When the United House of Prayer, a large black landlord in Harlem, raises the rent on Freddy's Fashion Mart, Freddy's white Jewish owner is forced to raise the rent on his subtenant, a black-owned music store. A landlord-tenant dispute ensues; Sharpton uses it to incite racial hatred. "We will not stand by," he warns malignantly, "and allow them to move this brother so that some white interloper can expand his business." Sharpton's National Action Network sets up picket lines; customers going into Freddy's are spat on and cursed as "traitors" and "Uncle Toms." Some protesters shout, "Burn down the Jew store!" and simulate striking a match. "We're going to see that this cracker suffers," says Sharpton's colleague Morris Powell. On Dec. 8, one of the protesters bursts into Freddy's, shoots four employees point-blank, then sets the store on fire. Seven employees die in the inferno.

"Far-left nuts"??

Is it just me, or is it impossible in the USA to actually be left-of-center without getting branded a communist?

Probably not.

Remember, capitalism defeated communism so it must be the end all be all and it would be sacriligeous and un-American to suggest otherwise.

It makes calling someone slightly on the left a communist an easy way to take a shot at them.

Al Sharpton is just in it for publicity and all that, but I think Kucinich is genuinely nuts.

Jesus fucking Christ, why is it you Eruos decide that because some one is labeled 'far-left' or 'far-left nut' that automatically we mean 'Commie-pinko-bastard'? I've seen this happen in almost ever debate involving the left and 99% of the time it's been a ridiculous strawman.

And the fact of the matter is, theski is right. Dennis Kucinich has been primarily tailoring his run to the far left of the Democratic and Green Parties. He's running a fringe campaign directed to mostly fringe supporters.

I don't know why they're running, but I don't see the problem, as their campaigns are comedy gold.

Kookcinich doesn't even know what planet he's on, much less how to appeal to those who are not to the left of Marx and Stalin.

Sharpton is Jesse Jackson's stand in.

Speaking of Reverend Al, I heard a joke on the radio last night about him

When Sharpton announced his campaign in Iowa, only 7 people showed up. Six of them were the 'live at 5' news crew that had to be there.

The seventh was a black guy who carried a 'Sharpton for President' sign.

Sharpton figures he's doing good as sees he now has 50% of the black vote in Iowa. :P

Didn't he finish behind Kucinich in the NH primary? But I'm still pretty sure he had support from New Hampshire's black population. Both of them.

Sharpton has 50% of the black voters in Iowa?

For a presidential candidate who obviously wants attention rather than actual political influence, that's quite impressive.

BTW - on the subject of left-wing candidates... do anyone know if the Greens are running at all? Ralph Nader has announced that he's not running for president, but that doesn't mean that another Green can't do it.

that was a joke Simon. There are more black people in Denmark than there are in Iowa.

Iowa's population was 98.3% white according to the last census. Only 2.1% or 61,853 reported as being black (out of a total pop. of 2,926,324). The numbers get a little higher if you count people who consider themselves black but also consider themselves of multiple races but it's still only 2.5% of the state population.

2000 Census Numbers

That's just the population and not the registered voters which should be significantly less in number.

98.3% + 2.1% = 100.4% :?

They probably are running, it's just they don't have a hope in hell of capturing any attention this time around. They went back to being a borderline "third" party. It was only Nader's celebrity that gave them the national prominence.

Dennis Kucinich is still in the race. After all, he commands the Oompa Loompa vote and has strong ties to the Lollipop Guild.
