7 Year Old Suspended for Saying 'Hell' in School

Girl Suspended from School for Saying 'Hell'

The best part is finding out the girl's reason for saying 'hell' in school. I wonder if she'll ever realize the irony involved.

Are they implying that since the school is suspending their daughter for swearing, that the school is also not suspending kids who bring weapons!?

It is rather sad to see the level to which indoctrination has seeped into the children of fundies, though.

What, the "going to hell for blasphemy" stuff? That's nothing new.

Many kids say things like that at that age, as it's probably something they picked up in Sunday school.

Anyway, is "hell" even an expletive when referring to the Chrsitan afterlife? And if so, would be like getting suspended for saying "dick", but it was your friend's name?

I would hope that any child of mine, when told that they were going to be suspended for saying 'hell' would reply with "Well, since I'm going to be suspended anyway, you all can go fuck yourselves". True, I would have to discipline them severely, but it would still be funny.

They'd probably get expelled for that...

Thus, this is probably why I don't have children.

LOL...personally my fave was the sheer avoidance of the school to define their own rules.
School officials were unavailable for comment. A Pittsburgh Public Schools spokeswoman told the newspaper that the student code prohibits profanity but does not provide a clear definition of what profanity is.
That and seriously this is PC BS at it's finest. Detenion maybe at WORST...but suspension?!

Wow.

I support the decision to suspend her.

She was being religously oppresive to her fellow student when she told him she was going to hell for swearing. How dare she force her religon on others. :P

If somebody suspended my boy for saying "hell" at school, they would have to call home. This means I would find out, which in turn means I would go to the school to talk to them. And let's just say that they would discover a new definition of "profanity" by the time I'm done talking to them.

Thank god for my schooling then. Sometimes my teachers would swear - like when this teacher got nuts at the class and put his foot in the wall. He swore quite loudly after that. Ah, the pleasures of profanity.

But here's the weird thing (for me, at least). It could be that I'm from the arse-end of the world, but from where we come from 'hell' isn't a swear word. The article is a curious one. Who the fuck would get suspended for swearing? This whole issue reeks of the absurd.

That's an interesting thing about schools. Mine, especially, does not believe in human concepts like mercy or compassion. Offenses that would normally merit a warning earn a detention. Trespasses warranting a detention garner an in-school suspension, which they throw out like bread to the Russian masses. The assistant principals will attempt to physically intimidate you in order to force you to confess some minor wrongdoing; one girl, when confronted by an ast. principal about talking on her cell phone, was literally reduced to tears.

However, all their great and terrible power is reduced to nothing if the parents decide, for some reason or another, that the school is being unfair.

It's like a fucking nuclear bomb.

I imagine its like this in every school, everywhere, but if a parent doesn't approve of a disciplinary action the school has taken, the district will fold like French soldiers sitting in beachchairs. If somebody came into the main office gushing profanity at the principals (people, mind you, that freely mutiliate the psychological well-being of students on a daily basis for the crime of drinking at the water fountain too long), I do believe that they would literally beg for mercy.

:wtf:
If saying hell or some other "profanity" in school is enough to get you suspended I would have been suspended a couple of times a day all throughout elementary school. As would most kids in my school. The worst you could get for saying hell, shit, fuck or anything like that was, "It isn't nice to swear" from a nearby teacher, if even that.

Can you get suspended for saying "hell-o" or "could you please hell-p me"?

Profanity as a whole is a bullshit concept. That someone takes offense at a word is just fucked up.

You know what's awful? When parents raise a shit storm when their kids deserved punishment. It's happened at my district before. This kid on my bus was causing so much trouble that about 10 minutes out from school we had to turn around and bring him back so the bus driver could operate safeley (read swearing and attempting to assualt me and anyone else in reach) and finish dropping kids off. His parents came in and got in the principals face swearing and going nuts over the incident. Oh the joys of no longer riding the bus...

I apparently said "fuck" in kindergarten, had to stack the chairs on the school verandah. (There were 7.) I didn't do it, and it was in 1991.
