Taking away videogames causes violence. Everyone knows that.

meh. more idiocy from morons that don't want to acknowledge that their children could have willfully done something bad and instead need to blame something else. it's also amusing how they don't bother mentioning the specifics of this so-called "scientific research."

Mayabird plays video games for several hours. After being thoroughly brainwashed by the evil subliminal messages in video games that turns otherwise well-adjusted teens into homicidal maniacs, she wanders away, droning, "Must...eat mushrooms...and jump on turtles..."

No we need to prove that Bill Gates played too much monopoly, and that Donald Rumsfield was into playing Risk and illuminati.

I always loved this assertion because Video games are so relativly new, after all people have been blaming TV for years for doing the same, Music for who knows how long(Yet to hear anyone say Radio makes people KILL, maybe its not as many as the rest so they are not heard)

The simplest method of aurguing that video games cause violence is simply to ask the person in question, what the reasons was for all murders previous to 1980, or 1940 or 1905 depending on if your asking about Video games, TV or Radio

Comic books

haven't you ever read that same arguement trouted out in "Seduction of the Innocent" :) oh, and there were no killings or crime of any sort prior to the creation of Video Games, Comic Books or Music that overly excites. just ask our moral experts. <lol>

This is as old as time. Jazz caused moral decay, then it was rock and roll, then it was television, and now it's all of those plus video games.

I say videogames curb violence. I always feel so much better after I've reduced all opposition to bloody giblets and burning wreckage. It's the ultimate remedy for a bad day, IMO.

Of course, but the fact that it is posted so recently (today) indicates that the belief is still going strong, despite the fact that it's never been proven...

Of course video games cause violence. I mean something like CS sucks so much it makes existence, life, the universe in general hatable and everything must DIE because how much it sucks.

SC on the other hand, makes life worth living. :)

non-linear relationships sucks.

 This shit allways pisses me off.

Yes there is violence on TV, and in Video Games and every other fucking media in the world.

The point remains that it affects some people and doesn't other people. IMHO it all comes to the result of bad parenting. I myself am 19, and my parents divorced when I was 10. I had no dominant male figure, and so my male role models in life became people from these mediums that contain violence. My heroes were not my dad, they were Owen Odell, Druss the Legend, Dardalion, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Bones and Spock and everyone else who used violence when needed, but had morals and ethics that tempered their violence.

My Mum, after being a housewife her entire life had three teenagers to care for, no qualifications and no job. She worked each night to pay the bills while she went to University for 3 years to study to become a teacher. She got bearly 4 hours sleep a day for 3 years, and passed with a Bachelor of Education and an A+ grade average. She taught me the meaning of responsibilty and sacrifice.

If I walk down the street at night and hear a cry for help I go looking for who cried, and I do this because of the media and violence and the ethics protrayed. No I will not hit a woman, nor a man unless I have reason.

Video Games are - like most forms of media - a method of escapism because for most people real life is shit. But the messages contained in these mediums and how it affects people is dependent on the way the message is portrayed and how people were raised.

I say bad parenting has far more dire affects than Video Game violence, and these people are complaining because they need something to blaim besides themselves.

Quiet you, you're undermining my campaign to horde the multitudes into my secret warehouse/rocket ship to the sun.

*ahem*....yes they are the causes of violence, disregard the obvious flaws in most of these people's parenting and guidance skills as well the fact that violence existed since man first picked up a rock and go for the easy answer...Jaz...uh Roc...hmmm Comi....Video Games.

Damn straight! I learned quickly how stress relieving turning a bunch of computer generated sprites into CG-gibs in Quake 3 could be. More recently i have replaced Q3 with GTA:VC as my stress relief of choice, either by taking it out on CG people or just cruising around in a sports car, with a beatiful sunset and Crockett's Theme on the radio (Stress relief doesn't have to be violent)

I like to ask people why WWI and WW2 were so violent, considering that generation group up without TV and Video Games they should have loved each other and shared everything!
