Skirmish/Paintball

Post by Vympel »

Argh fuck ... had my fifth game of paintball today- for the first time, the paintballs managed to rupture my skin and I have a few very nasty wounds. Ouch.

Rant time:

- Shitty paintball marker: every time I had a great shot, the bolt wouldn't return all the way back so I had to bring it back manually. Missed a lot of kills this way. Eventually got it replaced.

- Cheating fuckwits: you know, those arseholes who get hit, then think they can just stay there? I called one fucking guy (stranger) on it, and he said "settle down, or I'll knock you out." I told him to go fuck himself in return.

- Paintball gun design- there's got to be a more efficient way to load ammunition than this- and can we please have clips for the hoppers? (every game, someone doesn't close the lid properly and they lose over $20 worth of paintballs- never happened to me though)

- the Australian government: ruthlessly regulates paintball guns, making it virtually impossible to own one ... and forcing us all to use the same type (I'd probably buy my own if I could)

Yes of course - because we all know that paintball guns kill little babies and small kittens. Please god, won't someone think of the fucking children already?

Sometimes I hate the liberal party for being so conservative.

I never use the rental gun. I bought my own, and I clean it meticulously before and after I play. I replace the bolt spring about every three sessions. That's much more often than I have to, but I've never had the bolt get stuck on me.

That why you never shoot someone once. Once you tag them, you keep shooting until he calls himself out. With even a low-grade gun, you can get off about 4-6 shots in a second. If he won't call out, keep pulling that trigger. Oh, and get in a couple of headshots. One hit on his visor will take the fight out of him.

They do make clips. I have one that can hold three containers, and I attach it to a belt I got at an Army surplus store. The clip even has a velcro cover, so the containers can't spill out when I'm running around. With that clip, and a full gun, I always go out in the field with about 400 rounds.

Can't say much to that. In the US, you can get a decent gun for around $200-300.

There ARE clips aviable, there are also Paintball Rifles aviable, though I've never seen it aviable, just after-market modding or home grown weapons

I have a model 98 Tippman with a flatline. I've got the a generic hopper on top. I think 200 round capacity?? Its been a while so I dont remember.

I hate the cheaters in p-ball. Especially when they are over 18. I can cut kids some slack but not adults.

You think that cheating is bad? Try playing on a field where everyone has to chrono their gun to fire at around 180 fps, but some jackass uses an allen-wrench to jack his gun's speed up to around 240 once he gets out into the field.

Well you are a fragile Sydneysider after all.
Rant time:

Luck of the draw, it's never happened to me, but my friends have coped it once or twice.
- Cheating fuckwits: you know, those arseholes who get hit, then think they can just stay there? I called one fucking guy (stranger) on it, and he said "settle down, or I'll knock you out." I told him to go fuck himself in return.
***Input mode = target 1***

That's when you get your entire team to aim for that one guy, and disregard that whole '6 meters warning' rule. Unload on his ass.
- Paintball gun design- there's got to be a more efficient way to load ammunition than this- and can we please have clips for the hoppers? (every game, someone doesn't close the lid properly and they lose over $20 worth of paintballs- never happened to me though)
Also never happened to me, I religiously check my lid ... although it isn't too much of a gripe, everyone else is in the same boat.

Well here in Vic, I have heard that now if you don't have a gun liscence you can't play 'Paint' ball, you have to play with the 'lazer' guns and really what's the point of that?

Okay, that's getting pretty ridiculous. Talk about taking gun control a little far.

Still, the lazer thing might be fun if everyone wears shock harnesses like the training scenes in Starship Troopers. :D

Where there a bunch of cases of people with paint ball guns causing problems in Australia? I've heard of a few instances in the US where people have been shot with paintball guns by punks cruising around thinking it's fun to take shots at unsuspecting people (apparently water guns weren't good enough). I don't think it happens too often because there's a good chance that someone might shoot back at them with a real gun.

When I play, after the ref. gives the basic rules, I usually tell any first-timers on my team "don't point your gun upwards, point it down if you're not using it".... to prevent losing all your balls. People still manage to lose their balls.

You can also get a belt-fed side clip. Looks expensive and I think it only works with certain expensive guns.

I bought my own gun last year. Its so much better than a rental. I stuck a 14" barrel on it and the first time I used it I was pegging people from distances that were unimaginable with a crappy rental, usually with the first ball.

I have my tank on my back (remote), and the packsack also holds extra clips.

I've been playing for several years, but I have yet to break skin (although many bruises). I wear a full-body german-military-issue camo suit.

Laws in Austalia:

That completely sucks. You're only allowed buying a pump action, and you even need a gun permit to do that.

Canada was close to having similar regulations; luckily it didn't pass.

A new barrel is such an improvement. Especially if it gives the ball a nice spiral when it comes out. I once pegged a guy through the slats of a picket fence (on a paintball field, of course) with a 14" barrel.

When I play, I wear a thick hunters sweatshirt, with hunter's overalls over that, thick gloves, and a green mesh over my head to cancel out the glare from my mask. And my mask has a yellow filter so I can see better in the woods.

People are blinded every year.

A paintball leaves the gun traveling the same speed as a crossbow bolt. That's OK if the ball hits skin, but if it hits anywhere around the eye, you're blind (your eyeball will shatter like an egg).

Certain stupid people buy paintball guns and treat them like toys, shooting at their friends without wearing masks or general mishandling causing accidental firing in an unsafe area.

There are a number of lobby groups that push for restrictions on paintball guns as dangerous weapons requiring special permits.

The sport is safe if you're wearing protective gear. Unfortunately a few stupid people ruin it for the rest of us.

I suppose I'd support some kind of liscensing system in Canada if it was inexpensive, accessible to everyone, didn't restrict gun types, and still allowed unrestricted supervised play at fields.

One time, a bunch of us were at the playing field, and we were back in the waiting area. The field had a strict policy of guns being plugged in any area where people didn't have their masks on. So a bunch of us are standing there, drinking water and taking a break, when this one newbie jackass comes up with his gun, waves it around in front of people's faces, and says "Hey, is my gun jammed"? He didn't have a barrel plug, and the gun was loaded. Needless to say, he was quickly relieved of his gun and smacked. Freakin idiot!

After a match, I was heading back to the waiting with my gun plugged, when I tripped over a root. My gun went off and the paint blasted back through the barrel and into the paint ball hopper. For the rest of the afternoon, I was shooting curve balls. (I did manage a couple of flukey behind the tree kills)

Still, it's better to screw up your gun then to accidentally blind someone.
