Most places the posted speed limit actually makes sense. Unfortunately a lot of areas aren't enforced or it's too difficult to enforce them.
In other instances the looooooooong flat roads in certain parts of the country could really stand to have speed limits higher than 75mph. One of the problems, IMO, is that our interstates usually end up going directly through cities and while the speed limits usually require drivers to slow down most people don't.
IMO some of the speed limitis within Arizona cities are a little on the high side for real safety, and considering that it's easy to get away with going 5-10 mph over that it's no wonder we have so many traffic fatalities. It also doesn't help that so many people are driving "tanks" (SUVs) these days.
