Utah Trying Once Again to Fuck the Children.
The following bill, MEDICAL NEGLECT - EXCLUSION, is making its rounds through the Utah legislature. Just to make a long story short, parents can withhold immediate, life saving medical care from their children, and provide whatever quackery/faith healing to their children that they want until that child is withing five days of death before the government can do or say anything. If the child needs something like chemotherapy, soory, too late.
And of course, for all the fucking Mormons in which the state is infested with, there is the A parent who, legitimately practicing his religious beliefs, does not provide specified medical treatment for a child is not for that reason alone a negligent or unfit parent. claus. This way shithead parents who offer prayer when a simple antibody would save their kid's life go free as opposed to rotting away in prison where they belong.
It's 2004 already, this is fucking sick.

What bullshit. Why don't these assholes justify why saying "God said so" suddenly makes neglect vanish?

They also have a bill to lower the blood/alcohol % of a DUI if you have a kid in the car with you. Basicly, if you're a fundie, you can treat your kids medical problems with handwaving, but if you've had a beer, you're endangering your kid and need to be fined and jailed (emphasis on fined).Stormbringer wrote:Fucking stupid Moronoms.
Not that I'm against getting DUI's off the street, I just think its funny that they took this approach. I can just imagine, some thing akin to druggies, some asshole rounding a corner with a cop after his ass and having his kid jump out of the car so the driver will be legal.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Ok thats a fucked up thing.
There is a story I remember being told back when I was at school in a Religious class. And while I'm an avid agnostic/atheist today, I think its relevent to this.
There was a guy who lived in a house near a river. One night it utterly craped down rain and the river started to flood. In the morning an evac was ordered of the town. A guy drove by and told him to get in and evac now, the water was rising fast. The guy inside replied "No thats ok, my God will save me". So the guy drove off. A few hours later, the waters reached the house and started to rise, cutting it off from land. A rescue team in a zodiac came in and told him to get the fuck out. The guy scoffed at them saying "I told you, my God will save me!". The waters rapidly rose and soon it was upto the level of the roof where the guy was still standing. A Blackhawk hovered into view through the storm clouds and they tried to get the guy to put a harness on and haul him out of there. He once again told them "My God will save me!"
Sure enough, the dickhead drowned several minuites after the Choper left.
He gets to heaven rather disapointed, angry and confused. So he walks up to God and asks "I've been faithful all my life, why didn't you save me from the floodwaters?!"
To which God replies: "I sent you a car, a boat and a frigen Helicopter you idiot!"
The moral of the story? People who wait around for God to come down from heaven with a bright light and choir of Angels are going to be waiting a lloonngg time.
You could easily rewrite the story for these Morman fuckheads. With a Doctor, a specalist and a crash cart team running in at different times to save their kid and them rejecting help and God smiting them for this stupidity
Again not that I belive in God, but it amazes me that people refuse to take advantage of stuff like modern medical technology because they think its against God's will! And they should be charged with murder if they refuse medical treatment for their kids and they die. Or Grievous bodily harm if they survive with injuries and health problems.

This all stems from the religious man's definition of "religious freedom". You see, the secular definition of "religious freedom" is that you should be free of persecution for your beliefs, and free of religious tyranny, ie- other people forcing you to respect their beliefs. Laws should have a secular basis.Chris OFarrell wrote:Again not that I belive in God, but it amazes me that people refuse to take advantage of stuff like modern medical technology because they think its against God's will! However, the religious man's definition of "religious freedom" is that you should be free to do whatever your religion tells you to do, regardless of whether it violates laws which have a secular basis.

I don't know. There are plenty of religious people I know that understand the concept of secular law and don't have problems with it. It's more or less the hard core churchies that want crap like this.Darth Wong wrote:However, the religious man's definition of "religious freedom" is that you should be free to do whatever your religion tells you to do, regardless of whether it violates laws which have a secular basis.

But those "hardcore" churches have the most vocal lobbying groups, as well as the highest friends in the current administration.Stormbringer wrote: I don't know. Yeah, they do. Shrillness has it's advantages I guess. But that still doesn't mean every one that's religious thinks that because it's a religious directive means it ought to be allowed.Xenophobe3691 wrote:But those "hardcore" churches have the most vocal lobbying groups, as well as the highest friends in the current administration.Stormbringer wrote: I don't know. Sure they do; it's just a matter of degrees. The vast majority of Christians have no problem criminalizing prostitution and so-called "public indecency", for example.Stormbringer wrote:I don't know. My replies to all assholes that go 'Technology is evil! God doesn't want us to have it/use it'
(In order of us. #1 is for the ones that scream it then watch TV, #2 is for the hypocrites, and #3 is for the fundies)
1- Explain The 700 Club
2- If he didn't want us to have it, he's all powerful, he wouldn't let us have it moron
3- Yeah, I can understand why, as he's a powerless fictional character, and a good paper shredder makes short work of the bible

If they don't take their child to a doctor, then this clause doesn't apply, right? So this really gives a parent the right to let a child die at home, because he assumes it will go to hell if it recieves medical care?101 (f) Nothing in this Subsection (18) shall prohibit the state from taking medical care
102 measures when a licensed medical professional finds that without a medically necessary
103 procedure a minor child will suffer death or serious permanent disability within 120 hours of
104 diagnosis.

To be fair, nowhere in the bible is prostitution forbidden. At least, I think.Darth Wong wrote:Sure they do; it's just a matter of degrees. This is insane on too many levels. Someone following some shamanistic Pacific Islander tradition would be arrested if he kidnapped someone and sacrificed them to a volcanoe, this should be no different.

If it gets passed, hopefully it will find it's way into court quickly. I don't really see any way that it could survive a serious legal challenge, because the Supreme Court has made it very clear that religious laws are most definitely beneath the laws of the state ("each man should not be a law unto himself," IIRC that decision also came from a case against a Mormon). For those people who believe otherwise, they are invited to pray God down into the court so that he can overturn the ruling personally
