In the spirit of Crimsonland...

Post by Lagmonster »

...and vying for "most badass shooter of all time", comes Phobia III.

Yeah, I love freeware and shareware games. Independant developers kick ass.

This game has some bizarre Russian-to-English dialogue but kickass sounds, menus and videos. It's also basically impossible to finish. Not quite as versatile as Crimsonland, but if you liked that one, this is worth a try.

Do they even have a menu to see the controls?

The controls are horribly clunky. You cannot look and shoot in different directions.

Also, it appears that the level never ends, and yet you only have a very small space to move around in.

This game is awful.
You can only shoot in one direction in relation to the direction you are moving, and that direction isn't even straight ahead- rather, it's at a 45 degree angle.

Getting past the first level is boringly impossible.

And here I was hoping maybe someone had come up with an FPS loosely based on the same concept as Crimsonland. :(

Well, I'm glad it's freeware, because I certainly wouldn't pay for it.

Heh. I remember back in the Commodore 64 days when all games were basically as hard to control, and I'll grant you that. I think it's still fun for the sheer insanity of the gameplay, and only Crimsonland does it better.

Question: Has anyone found anything that comes close to besting Crimsonland in the top-down oh-dear-god over-the-top shooter concept?

Instaled, tried to play for about five times and got killed everytime in the first level.

I wouldn't want to be in that poor trooper's shoes. The main wave comes only AFTER I finish the amunition to the miniguns. Bleah.
