Post by Mlenk »

The UT 2004 Demo has been released. I'm still d/ling it but hopefully from what we can see from the demo it'll be better than XMP.

UT remains one of my favourite shooting games of all time, but UT 2003 left a bad taste in my mouth.

Hopefully this one will be better (especially since I'm entirely sick of WWII themed shooters).
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.

I agree about UT 2003. Them leaving out Assault mode was unforgivable.

That onslaught map is fun

Unfortunately you alone can make little difference in the outcome of the match if the bots on your team act like idiots
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

I'm glad they put back the original sniper rifle. I really hated that stupid lightning gun from 2k3.

I must say this is really well done. Onslaught is excellent and the fact that things work in links (so you can't just sneak around and take important locations *cough*bf1942*cough*) is nice. My only beef is that it is in fact still Unreal/Quake style twitchy-big-gun-killy-boom-boom-hop-around-strafe-noskill which kind of pisses me off. Ah well.
History? I love history! First, something happens, then, something else happens! It's so sequential!! Thank you first guy, for writing things down!

Yes, UT 2003 was a disaster.

I'll wait for UT 2004 to prove itself first.

I think that's what made it fun. The speed and pace of the game... I really liked Quake3 because of the pure intensity of it - millisecond differences could determine life or death.

And bunnyhopping and strafing does take a small amount of skill

Once one get to higher levels, Quake can become an unbelievably one sided games, especially in 1v1. We are talking about 100-3 kind of scores here.

An extra megahealth or red armor in the wondering path, an extra milisecond in response times translates to flying into chunk3D many many times.....

????

The sniper-lightning gun's still there...

Right now I just ran an empty onslaught game just to see how everything's like. I have fallen in love with the raptor. :D

EDIT: Whoops. Both the lightning gun AND the old sniper gun are there. Yay! And I've just come back from some online games. I usually played the role of air support in onslaught games.

I've only played UT before, and I think UT2004 will turn out to be pretty fun.

And judging from one screenshot, you can pilot spacefighters???

Unreal Tournament II was terrible. It took up over 3 gigs of space and delivered very low quality medicore gameplay. Hopefuly this one would be better.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

Doesn't have much to do with the demo but still: Since the game will be comng out in 2 different formats, 6 CD's (Just the game) or 2 DVD's (Game and lots of documentaries and tutorials for map making and stuff), which do you think will be the best to buy?

I'd go for the DVDs personally, but this is the first i've heard of this..it's well sick, it needs 5 gig hd space!

Where did you get that info from anyway?

They toned down the sniper rifle's RoF to prevent the whoring that took place in UT99~

This demo by itself is five times the game 2k3 was

Where'd you get that info? This is the first time I've heard of that. Cool if it's true though.

EDIT: Nevermind. Here's an article from GameSpy. And I'd go for the DVD version personally. 6 discs is crazy and knowing myself I might misplace a few of them.

Most of us probably have DVD drives for our computer, so I'd go for all that good stuff on the DVDs as well.

The only major problem I've had with playing the demo is that the truck sometimes won't move unless you press forward or backwards for a while.

If they get that fixed, then the game would be more or less perfect otherwise.

They've really implemented vehicles well in this game. Everyone uses them to good extent (good meaning me getting my head chopped off by a Manta doing 80 mph  ) and they're easy to control. Fighting against them is rightfully a major challenge at times, from trying to shoot down a Raptor to attempting to sneak up on a tank (I did that once, until the tank's turret turned toward me and blew me up).

In that aspect, an AVRIL is a must in many situations.

Everything's well done in the game. Like in Assault, where you have arrows that point to where your objective is and highlights too. Anyway, I like it so far and will try to at least try to buy the game when it comes out.

This game looks pretty shit; I'd expect a new UT game to look somewhat better than UT 2003. Same old really, not that fun.

Most of the high detail textures and models were left out in the demo due to size issues, just like in the UT2003 demo.

That said, I like this game. It feels like a cross of UT1 and UT2k3. In a good way. Onslaught is good fun, and most of the vehicles are pretty good. I don't really like the Hellbender, but the rest are very fun to drive/fly.

I hope the DVD edition comes to Europe.
