Yes, the reaction of the soccer fans was absolutely tasteless; this is low even compared to some of the sport's other infamous excesses.

Of course, Mexican criticism has nothing to do with their work ethic, and the propensity of individual Mexican workers to slack off is not a valid indicator of larger societal deficiencies.

I remember when I used to work for the automotive business and we supplied tooling to Mexican plastic injection moulding shops. The fucking things would come back with the imprint of a wrench clearly stamped into them, from where a worker would throw it into the machine in order to shut down the production line and get the afternoon off. We're talking about four hundred thousand tooling here, and these idiots would just toss objects into the machine to fuck it up so they could drink tequila. And this happened regularly. It may be outrageous for a Canadian work crew to willfully destroy its own instruments to get out of work, but then again the Canadians get paid more than $0.44 American per hour and maybe even get some sort of benefits. Plus they're probably educated and have some hope of improving their prospects.

That's the funniest thing about soccer and the US. When you're a kid, it's pretty damn popular. Hell, I played Little League Soccer quite a lot when I was little.

But by the time kids get out of Middle School, all cultrural intrest in the sport just evaporates.

I dunno; its getting pretty big in my area, second only to football at the High School sports levels even. Competitive clubs are a big thing here in suburbia.

I thought it was more along the lines of how the American team won despite American's not giving a shit about soccer, making it an even more embarassing loss for the Mexicans and a better victory for the USA. At least that was my interpretation.
