A TIE rams a Federation ship...
What would happen is a TIE fighter were to ram a Federation ship, something along the lines of a GCS or a Soverign.
I remember that A-Wing did some damage to the Executor, so a TIE, which is not as strong, might screw up a Federation ship.
Any ideas?

Well, if we take the original X-wing to be any indication, ramming a TIE does less to a Y-wing than taking a proton torpedo or even concussion missile. But that doesn't really count. Depends on the ship, I'd say. A Sovereign could likely take the impact. Maybe the Defiant because its just so darn tough. It'd really screw up a Constitution or early Excelsior, though.

Are you sure, we often see Jem' Hadar ramming ships that have taken no damage. No shields stop them.GySgt. Hartman wrote:It would burst against the shields, doing no real damage.

Yes but you never see any reactions with the shields.

That didn't have anything to do with my point, thanks.HRogge wrote:After the Executors bridge deflector was shot down.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:The A-wing rammed Executor's bridge window, just to clarify.

It would depend on the model of Tie Fighter, it's speed, and where it hit
The best way to figure it out is, how fast do the bastards go, and what's there mass?
In my opinion, the order of damage would be (lowest damage to highest)
Tie Bomber (unloaded) Heavy, but slow
Tie Fighter
Starwing Gunboat
Tie Interceptor
Starwing Missilegoat
Tie Advanced/Avenger
Tie Defender
Skipray Blastboat
MissileBoat after it's shields are fully charged, lasers fully charged, Tractor Beam fully charged, with all power to engines and SLAMS on, while pumping shield power into the lasers to drain into the SLAM
(I've gotten a MB up to that speed before It was at 4.5X the speed of a Tie Fighter, or roughly 3 1/2 that of an A-Wing)

You must also remember that that A-wing probably had at least a partial load of concussion missiles on board (A-wings can carry up to 12). TIE Fighters or Interceptors (at least the OT ones) don't carry any warheads.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:The A-wing rammed Executor's bridge window, just to clarify.

And? What about them? They didn't have anything to do with the actual ramming.Ma Deuce wrote:You must also remember that that A-wing probably had at least a partial load of concussion missiles on board (A-wings can carry up to 12). No, but it means that there are explosives onboard that would also go off when the fighter blew up. This adds to the explosive power.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:And? What about them? Not all kind of warhead/bombs explode when the vehicle explodes... a fusion bomb would NOT explode ( as an example ).Rogue 9 wrote:No, but it means that there are explosives onboard that would also go off when the fighter blew up. This adds to the explosive power.

Concussion missiles are not fusion bombs. I know that nuclear devices don't just go off by accident, but are concussion missiles nuclear?HRogge wrote:Not all kind of warhead/bombs explode when the vehicle explodes... a fusion bomb would NOT explode ( as an example ).Rogue 9 wrote:No, but it means that there are explosives onboard that would also go off when the fighter blew up. We don't know how Conc. missiles work, so we have no idea if they would detonate. Everything requiring some kind of complex activator would not explode...Rogue 9 wrote:Concussion missiles are not fusion bombs. Re: A TIE rams a Federation ship...
Honestly like Ender said...Mass and speed of object because without either...I could say it shreds through the ship or does nothing but create a smudge on the shields.Gandalf wrote:What would happen is a TIE fighter were to ram a Federation ship, something along the lines of a GCS or a Soverign.

Well, hell... just figger out a TIE's max acceleration (probably several thousand G's, like other small SW craft), its mass, and then all you need is to calculate how long it needs to accelerate 'fore dealing a killing blow to a GCS. How fast would it need to be going before, say, its KE was roughly equivalent to a 600-megaton blast?
