Few things are as moving as a funeral with military Honors
And few things bring grown men to tears so easily. The 21 gun salute and the playing of Taps did me in. The funeral was for my wife's grandfather, a decorated combat veteran of WWII. He served in France in 1944.

They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong
But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

I'd have to agree. I attended the funeral for the father of one of my co-workers. None of the sermon got to me, but seeing the blackhawks fly over in the missing man formation with his widow and children looking on? I broke down then and I can feel myself watering up a bit right now.
IMHO, we can not do enough to honor those who fought for what we have today and dream of for the future.

Its also a damn tough duty but very rewarding. Having a unit near philly means a lot of former Marines go there to retire and when they die my unit often gets tapped for duty. I know the guys who give the flag to the next of kin and its damn tough. That said may you grandfather in law rest in peace for the great service he rendered and my condolences.

"I put no stock in religion. By the word religion I have seen the lunacy of fanatics of every denomination be called the will of god. I have seen too much religion in the eyes of too many murderers. Holiness is in right action, and courage on behalf of those who cannot defend themselves, and goodness. "

How right you are Col. My grandfather was also a decorated WWII veteran, and I was honored to be a pall bearer for his funeral. His flag resides proudly in our home.
May we never forget those who served.

Ditto. Even on TV, I cry, or at least tear up, for those.LadyTevar wrote:Military funerals, Police Funerals, and Fireman Funerals.

Welcome back COL
I've never seen one of these but everyone I've talked to says they are a moving experience and I have no doubt that I would shed a few tears.
