Teen Learns Mom Accused of His Abduction

LOS ANGELES - Authorities arrested the mother of a 17-year-old boy after her son saw his picture on a missing children's Web site and discovered that she was accused of abducting him from his father 14 years ago.
Acting on a Canadian-issued warrant, U.S. marshals arrested Giselle-Marie Goudreault, 45, at her home in the San Fernando Valley. She was being held without bail until Canadian authorities can extradite her on child abduction charges, authorities said.
Goudreault "was shocked and very emotional" during the Feb. 11 arrest, said Jimell Griffin, a deputy U.S. marshal in Los Angeles. The boy's father had custody of his son, and Griffin said Goudreault did not return him after a court-ordered visit.
The teen, whose identity was not released, was immediately put in a foster home.
The boy spotted his own photo, taken when he was 3, on a Canadian missing children's Web site a few months ago and told a teacher about it, authorities said. The teacher contacted police, who then confirmed the story with Canadian authorities.
Griffin said although it was Goudreault's son who initiated contact with authorities, the youth was upset at his mother's arrest and tried to comfort her while she was being led away.
Goudreault initially took her son to live in Mexico, authorities said, and she moved to the Los Angeles area in 1995. She has been remarried twice.
"They were taking her child away and she did what she had to do," Melissa Goudreault, her sister-in-law, said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press on Tuesday from her home in Red Deer, Alberta. "The family is behind her and is trying to raise money for her legal defense."

So here we are, not knowing shit about what happened besides what's in the paper and still judging the mother.
Maybe the father abused the boy, but the boy was too afraid to talk in court, so the father got custody. That would be a good reason for the mother to abduct her son.
Maybe she's just a bitch who pulled the "but it's my son" thing and ignored a perfectly good court order.
Point is: We don't know a whole lot about this, so we shouldn't be too quick passing judgement.

The only social indicators I have are favourable ones, the boy attended school and obviously didn't intend to have his mother arrested.

Different case, since there's no possible justification for molesting your kid, and there are for cases like this one. On principle, I don't have sympathy for this woman, I would have to know the facts of the case before passing a definite judgement. However, if she was my own mother, and this had been her only fault in life, I would not like her any less because of it, I would not feel like stabbing her in the chest. And otherwise, if my life had been miserable until now because of her, these would only be a confirmation that my place is elsewhere, since I would already have reached that conclusion long ago. 17 years is long enough for that.

The molestation of a child by their parent is so horrible because it's a violation of every bond of trust between them. It's the self-gratification of the parent at the expense of their child's welfare. The same thing has happened in this case. The mother lied to her child, decieved him about his father for 14 years. She manipulated him for her own selfish reasons of custody and revenge against the father.
