Has anyone tried this? On the plus side, I've heard that all you need to do is plug it in and hook it up to your 'puter without actually adding anything, and boom- yer on your way. On the other hand, my sister tried it, and said since she's had it, she had problems with her CD-ROM drive.

Any comments?

I've never used SBC's DSL, but at home we could just plug in the ADSL modem into the computer via a crossover Ethernet cable. Some ISPs are kinda dumb and force you to use a USB modem, though.

I've heard SBC offers a router to use with it (made by 2wire), it's a pretty good one.

Hmm. I'm eager to get DSL due to large fan film files I'd like to see and soon participate in. I've been doing a bit of homework, and found this article.

Anyone heard of sonic.net? Any good/bad stories?

I liked it when the DSL service was Pacbell. No software to install if you didnt want it. However, I used another company now, but the line is still basically SBC. Except I have a static IP.

I've got SBC. When I first hooked it up, the instructions told me to install some software shit that made me "log on" to the connection everytime I booted. That was a pain in the ass, but after I set up my home network (with a D-Link router), the router auto-logged me on. Other than that, I've got no complaints.

Yeah, some services require what's called PPPoE -- some versions of Windows natively support it, but others require a logon tool or your router to do it for you.

Bwaahaaa! On one computer I tried install all the programs and shit and got absolutely nothing and you had to install all the other crap to get the connection manager which is supposedly what you need. Then my dad used the phone and spent over an hour with support trying to contact a programmer or some such and eventually got them to give us DSL with out installing all that crap.

Right now it works fine, but for what ever reason I have to reset the settings on the router once in a while. Other then that it's pretty smooth, as far as I can tell.

"Create New Connection", dial 0. Works perfectly.

I use BT Openworld in the UK, which is now BT Yahoo! They said we need to do all that crap installing connection managers too, I'm surprised someone on here would fall for it.
