Wow, that'll discount any claims to antisemitism in the Gibson household. Well now the fodder really ought to fly.

Reminds me of an old, really obscure canadian TV movie called "Oakmount High"...
(for those who haven't seen it, a character in "Oakmount High" was a paranoid schoolteacher who blamed everything on some "eee-vil" jewish conspiracy...)

He is, didn't you read the article?~JasonGuardsman Bass wrote:I thought Gibson's dad was a holocaust denier. What the hell is going on?
I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

Anyhoo, somebody shut him up. Lynch Alan Greenspan... What an idiot.
Although I am not about to hold guilt of blood over to Mel. That would be just as bad as what he's saying about the Jews. I wait until Ash Wednesday, go see the movie, and then we'll see about it. He repeatedly denies anti-Semitism in an interview he gave Newsweek, saying (rightly) that it is his foremost duty as a Christian to love the Jew along with everyone else. That doesn't exactly sound like dear old Dad to me.

lol, thanks, I've been trying to think of one, but it's taking me a while.Rogue 9 wrote:Hey Xenophobe, just pointing out that you now qualify for a custom title. Yeah, and that rebuttal about sums it up.
About the rebuttal, it's what I say whenever someone says something really outlandish or tries to brag or something and I know they're lying. It's funny to see their faces just fall down flat...

Strawman fallacy. The controversy carries over to Mel and rightly so, because Mel refuses to denounce his father's beliefs and statements. I've pointed this out several times before to you, and you continue to spout this strawman bullshit where you pretend that people are going after Mel with no reason other than blood relation. What is your fucking problem?Rogue 9 wrote:Although I am not about to hold guilt of blood over to Mel. That would be just as bad as what he's saying about the Jews.
Nor does it sound like him denouncing his father's views, does it? It is, in fact, perfectly consistent with the prevailing theory that he believes his father is right about the Jews being evil, but he is compelled to "love" them anyway.I wait until Ash Wednesday, go see the movie, and then we'll see about it. He repeatedly denies anti-Semitism in an interview he gave Newsweek, saying (rightly) that it is his foremost duty as a Christian to love the Jew along with everyone else. Nice "Tu Quoque" fallacy. Too bad your argument remains a bullshit strawman (and a quite deliberate one in my opinion, since we've been over this ground before, and you stubbornly insist on repeating the strawman distortion despite being corrected several times), and my criticism of Mel's politics would only be a "poisoning the well" fallacy if this were a debate about the film rather than a thread about Gibson and his father, in which Mel's politics are the precise subject matter rather than an irrelevance.Rogue 9 wrote:It may be a strawman, but aren't you poisoning the well?
Go look up your fallacy definitions, fucktard.

He seems to think that I'm trying to attack the film by attacking Mel, when I have thought from the beginning that the real story of this film is not the film itself (I mean, who really gives a fuck about yet another film about the Jesus myth?) but what it tells us about Mel Gibson. For me, Mel Gibson himself has always been the main issue. And to think I actually thought the guy was cool 15 years ago ... gah.

Since I was three years old then, what movies of his did you like- I know, it's diverting off the thread, but the thread is already almost abandoned.Darth Wong wrote:He seems to think that I'm trying to attack the film by attacking Mel, when I have thought from the beginning that the real story of this film is not the film itself (I mean, who really gives a fuck about yet another film about the Jesus myth?) but what it tells us about Mel Gibson. I liked Lethal Weapon (the original one, not the sequels) and the first two Mad Max films. I also liked "Payback". But his recent stuff has sucked, with very obvious religious overtones. The first half-hour of "We were Soldiers" is virtually a Catholic recruiting movie, and we all know how fucked-up "Signs" was.Guardsman Bass wrote:Since I was three years old then, what movies of his did you like- I know, it's diverting off the thread, but the thread is already almost abandoned.
It would appear that he got heavily into drinking and drugs about ten years ago and did precisely as he was conditioned to: he took refuge in his childhood beliefs. The same damned story I hear from just about every 'born again" I ever meet. If Mel were a Protestant, he would be a "born again".
