Woman struck by car

Post by Kintaro »

I would have posted this last night, but I was too upset to type.

Here's what happened: my girlfriend's uncle's girlfriend, Anna, was outside (I think she was in San Antonio because that's where she lives), and this old woman (not sure how old) was speeding down the street, and she struck Anna and sent her into the air. She was knocked unconcious for a couple hours and was sent to a hospital. She was released shortly afterward, and went to her lawyer to take care of the matter. However, a couple days later (I think this past Sunday), she woke up blind!!! Her lawyer said her insurance would cover all the costs, but the real question is will she regain her vision? Is this just temporary blindness, caused by some kind of trauma to the brain?
Will surgery help? I am not familiar with these types of injuries, so I do not know if she will be able to regain her vision.

I'm so fucking sad and pissed off at the same time, but other that give her my support, there's nothing that I can do. When I know more on her status, I'll post it.

Oh, and there are several witness who got the information on that old woman driving the car.

Thats awful! I'm sorry man.

The driver's insurance company should pay all the costs, and a whole fucking hell of a lot more. Not that it is any consolation for losing one's vision.

::Sighs::

I don't know the circumstances of the accident, so I say this with all possible trepidation:

Lack of senility should be a requirement for retaining a license.

As far as the blindness goes, I don't think I've ever heard of a person going blind sometime after blunt force trauma, but that doesn't mean it's not possible.

The blindness could be caused by pressure being exerted on the visual cortex. Without assessing via MRI or CAT scans, the blindness could be temporary or permanent as neural cells undergo necrosis. That's one possibility I've read of.

IANADBIWER (I am not a doctor, but I watch ER) I'd suspect the blindness is due to swelling around the optic nerves. She needs to go back to the hospital and have an MRI or a CT scan done, ASAP.

Absolutely blindness can be caused by blut-force trauma some days later, due to slow swelling. The real worry is, if the swelling is that slow, is there an anyeruism of some kind? Has the bleeding stopped, and, will surgery be needed to relieve the pressure? Only a good neurosurgeon will be able to answer these questions. but, I sure hope things turn out okay for her. That is a sad story, and I hope her lawyer sends that insurance company up the river and bankrupts them. Fucking stupid dipshit old dust-farting cuntwad.

Wanna know something peculiar? I just finished watching 'See no evil, hear no evil'. Karue in the movie was blinded by some dumbass drunk driver, according to him. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098282/, fyi. Fucking tragedy that people have to suffer because of these self-righteous motherfuckers who can't admit that they can't do things anymore. 'No, I can see just fine.' 'No, I'm okay. I'm not drunk. I can still drive'. Christ. Grow a freaking brain people. Is your pride worth more than the livelyhood of another human being? I just hope this piece of shit gets her license suspended, and her ass fined as well. Personally I wouldn't be against transplants of her eyes to that person, if it could restore sight in her. Hypothetically speaking.

I'd be shocked if she hasn't already gone to a doctor, so I'm sure he'll have good things to say.

But, I reckon it's probably temporary. My mother once suffered a blunt impact head injury to the back of the head, and both her eyes became bruised. Might be something similar here, just more serious.

Take care of yourself, and your girlfriend.

I just spoke with her over the phone, and she has her sight back. She's in therapy, and she's getting better each day. I don't know when she gets out, though. Thanks for your concerns and support. :)

Good to hear. Personally, I think that the real problem is simply weak and infrequent driver testing. The question is not "why should old people with bad reflexes or vision or hearing or judgement be allowed to drive", but "how the fuck does anyone with bad reflexes or vision or hearing or judgement get to drive?"

There are a lot of shitty drivers on the road, and the road test is so easy it's ridiculous. Drivers should be given much more rigorous testing, they should retested periodically, testing centres should not be afraid to fail people who don't make the grade, and stiff prison sentences should be handed out for driving without a license.
