Lots of makeup on guys as well.
It was when the one earring thing started though (and you had to be careful which ear it was )

The funny thing about that is, eventualy every one had both ears pierced because the damn rules changed so often or got confussed. Today its the left and your fruity, tommarrow its the right ear and you're fruity.Tsyroc wrote:

Meh, while I did have my ear pierced, it quickly grew over after my 18th birthday while I was in boot camp.

I thought AC/DC has pretty much dressed the same forever. Angus being in the school boy outfit everyone else is in t-shirt and jeans.
I don't recall what Queen dressed like in the 80's except for Freddy Mercury doing the leather pants thing for the Crazy Little Thing Called Love video.
KISS ditched the makeup sometime in the 80s and went without until after that "Unplugged" bit they did on MTV got the KISS nostalgia going.
Now, Motley Crue had some really heavy makeup to go with their leather bonage outfits in the early 80s..
Cinderella and early Poison come to mind when it comes to glam metal dressing up. Most Rock bands at least had the big hair and spandex until G-N-R made it okay to kill that (although Axel had big hair in the Welcome to the Jungle video. Then grunge really killed "the look" and didn't really do a lot of long term good for the music either.

So making the loop back, with the proliferation of gay marrage and therefore the exposure of 'real gay people', will the over the top images of gay life fade into the background?
Will dressing like a gay man revert to the two men wearing jeans and a T-shirt I saw on TV standing in line in SF to get married?

Yes Mike, I was there. I know that most big hair was not as exaggerated as the rocker look (which was so big as to be comical). Still, big hair doesn't do anything for me. The problem with 80's hairstyles is this: when you got her on all fours and banged her up the ass, you couldn't tell if you were fucking Rachel Hunter or the lead singer from Winger. While thats fine if you're Elton John, its a somewhat distubing thought for the average straight man.

Why would it not? I remember what people looked like. I don't see why more than that is required in this case.
Now if we were talking about 80's something else (something besides just a picture) then I would not claim I had any sort of informed opinion.

If they'd threw more stereotypes into that one, a black hole of stupidity would have sucked the whole show into oblivion.

That was kinda the point I was trying to make. The 80s were downright effete while the 90s celebrated the grunge look. I have no problem with the term "metrosexual." At least it gives the scruffy redneck types something other than "gay" to call a man who can tastefully groom and dress himself.Col. Crackpot wrote:why must everything be labeled. Metrosexual? So if you have good personal hygine habits and a hint of fashon sense you are a straight gay guy? I wear faded boot cut jeans with italian leather shoes.... so butter my buns and call me queer.

Actually, it's more than just dressing and grooming. The term "metrosexual" was coined to describe men who pay for things like manicures, facial treatments at beauty salons, etc.Galvatron wrote:At least it gives the scruffy redneck types something other than "gay" to call a man who can tastefully groom and dress himself.

Well, I've never done any of that, but I'm not opposed to it. If it weren't so damn emasculating to walk into a nails salon, I might get a manicure for myself. Up to now, I've been using my teeth...Darth Wong wrote:Actually, it's more than just dressing and grooming. Although I'll never pay for a manicure, pedicures are a totally different story. Sure you can do it yourself, but it is extremely relaxing to have beautiful women massaging and scrubbing your feet. For $20 every two months, it isn't exactly a major investment either and giving yourself a pedicure is a pain in the ass.

There comments made in this same vein made about Rudolph Valentino's influence in the 1920s.
I don't remember the particulars, but one period editorial railed against the emasculating effect of safety razors!
There really is nothing new under the sun.
Me, I'm about as far from metrosexual as a homosexual can get.
