I must be getting old :(

The thought of screwing with some random strangers seemed hilarious, but when I clicked that link it seemed kinda sad to me. It was fairly obvious the manager was trying to fix things....

I dunno, I guess I'm a Robin Hood type of pranking. :)

Showing their faces on a video doing the crime doesn't help. :D

Does anyone know what general bandwidth region a radio would have to operate on to interact with the drive through at, say a mc donalds? Out of curiosity of course...

Erm- do they use a land line, or is it a frequency? It would have to be something off the regular bandwidth- probably below 80 MHz or above 120. Just a random guess, though, may not be terribly coherent.

Its a frequency. It stated that quite clearly in big bold letters at the end of the clip.

Taco Bell uses a land line from their store to the speaker, but the employee talkes to the land line via a wireless headset. The reciver, and the power packs are usualy both in the manager's office
In effect, you are just tapping into the system. If your transmitter is much more powerful than the store's unit, (not hard given the store's link uses a 4 AA cell regargable power pack, all 100 milliwatts of it) you are just shouting down the store's link.
Hmmmmmm.

HAHA! That is friggin' hillarious given some of the people I know, and their antics.

This is *so* giving me ideas for the summer.

FYI, some portable ham systems can work from a good 1/2 mile or more to pull that shit. One of my friends was fucking around with McDonalds from my car one time with one of those things. Most of those units are 3 watts or more, my friend's is 5 watts, and is about the same size as that hand scanner thing shown in the movie.

The line between a funny practical joker and an obnoxious asshole is crossed when people start suffering losses, such as financial losses or business disruptions. Keep that in mind, Hyperion.

I didn't see the clip, I'm on a 56k and bandwidth is precious, Rogue9.

Hey, I never said I did it. I just find it amusing, especially since Taco Bell has botched up all of my orders for lunch in the last month. (started going to TDM since it's better food and reliable service)

The FCC is highly unforgiving of such things.

Probably some kind of harrassment charges and FCC laws being broken, not sure which ones exactly. Also puts anyone doing that kind of stuff directly in the line of fire from that store for lawsuits for lost profit.

Broadcasting on a restricted frequency,(<infraction) broadcasting without a license, (<infraction)interfering with a permitted radion broadcast, (<felony) use of public airwaves to facilitate a crime. (<felony)Crimes? Trespassing, disorderly conduct, vandalism, and a list that continues for the creative DA.
These idiot were using the RADIO for commiting crimes.
When you involve the Railroads, or Banks, the Feds get in on it post haste.
Deliberatly screwing up any commercialy licensed radio communication is a serious felony as far as the FCC is concerned. They needed an FCC permit to operate that system. You are interfering with the Federal governments regulating the airwaves.
Even though it was Taco Bell, they will hammer you with the same penalty as if you interfered with fire/medical/air traffic controle radio traffic.
This infractions alone could be hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines.
This would be plea barganed down to 5 digit fines.

Breaker breaker, be advised, do NOT mess with Uncle Charley! 10-4.
Hmmmmmm.
