Disagree. And I won't even blame it on my current neighborhood. I've lived in 5 different states and everywhere I go there are plenty of social fuckups. I try not to associate with them more than I have to, but they are out there.
I know. Trust me, I know. I've lived in as many states, myself, and different parts within them.
verilon wrote:You're bitching about women whining. Sometimes ya just gotta learn to deal with it. That, as well, is a part of relationship-building. As I am sure Mike can tell you, after a while, there are other little pet peeves your partner has that will annoy you.
Oh, please, I've a 15 year marriage myself - I could give you a shitload of peeves in regards to my Other Half, and probably list off the OH's list of peeves about me, too. But sticking your fingers in your ears is NOT "dealing with it". Whining is a symptom, you want to stop it for good, you have to deal with the cause.
I.e., the person. Yes, I know. My parents have been married now 16.5 years, so I know there are plenty of peeves between them, as well. However, I never said that it's NOT a problem. Sometimes, you just have to let it go. It's not as easy as you think it is. And don't get on to me about being younger, either.. it's the same now as it was back when you were my age. People in general are no easier to deal with now, and probably actually harder to deal with.
I understand that you're not trying to reduce it to just whining, but it's irritating to see that anyone might think that things necessarily go this way or that.
It was just one example, yes - and I even stated that no rule is 100% when dealing with people. People are not entirely random in behavior, certain patterns tend to recur. As I've gotten older and my understanding of some of these patterns has improved, my ability to get along with people has also improved. Not all of this can be taught - experience does count and you only get it one way - but that's no excuse for throwing up your hands and saying NONE of it should be taught.
I never said that it shouldn't be taught - but I really think that it would be pointless to try, because teens this day and age are unwilling to learn.

Going by that logic, we might as well close down all the high schools. Don't be silly; lots of teens are willing to learn. Sure, lots of teens aren't, and quite frankly, they deserve whatever fate they get. But why not try to help the more conscientious kids arm themselves with as much useful knowledge as possible?

Experience may be a good teacher, but there are certain things (eg- a horrible divorce) which are best learned through somebody else's experiences, not your own.

My fault; I was unclear: Teens are unwilling to learn things like this; it's viewed as stupid and degrading (remember also that teens more and more often these days seem to think they know everything about what's going on in the world).

Right-o. I totally agree with you there. I just don't think it would be worth the effort to try to find capable teachers, first off, or the effort to try to teach kids that don't give a shit. -shrugs-

Nobody wants to publicly admit that they don't already know everything there is to know about relationships and society, but that doesn't mean they won't pay attention during class, or that nothing said in the class will sink in.

As for certain students goofing off, that's just a discipline problem. A few ejections and failing grades would clear that right up. Can you imagine?

I think I definitely would have taken such a class, had it been offered, primarily in order to figure out the whole deal with females. From about eighth grade on into early college days, I was basically incapable of sorting out subtles hints from comely young ladies. I wasn't shy (far from it), it was just that I couldn't understand any of the signals they might have been putting out. For example, there were several girls who would, in group settings such as classes, bull sessions, or parties, invariably listen to me first and always laught at my jokes. It still happens, though I'm off the market, and I can't ever tell if its because I'm simply a fascinating person, or if the chicks dig me. It eats at a man, I tell ya :P

I could have also used a class in making the first move without choking :D

There needs to be an entire class just on signals. I'm telling you, if I've asked you out, you don't need to use signals for fear that I'm not interested. Damn it, I've already asked you out haven't I.

True that.. I wish it were easier to project any sort of stats on it though..

You underestimate the cruelty of teenagers. In my high school days, I witnessed a couple of people ask others out, but only to throw it in their face. I almost suffered from this, but lucked out and said "I'll think about it" which was an unanticipated answer. Later, one of her friends told me she was just being a bitch, hoping to embarass me. Glad I didn't go down that road...

Did you ask her friend out?

Uh, she was 24. And it wasn't exactly cruelty.
