Bin Laden Top for U.S. Pay-Per-View Execution?

NEW YORK (Reuters) - One in five Americans would likely pay to watch a televised execution of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden (news - web sites) if he were found guilty and sentenced to death but more than a third said executions should not be televised, a poll released on Monday said.

A national telephone poll of more than 1,000 people aged 18 or older, done for TRIO cable network by Harris Interactive, asked respondents who they would most likely pay to watch executed if executions were shown on pay-per-view television.

Bin Laden, accused of masterminding the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States, was named by 21 percent of those polled. Former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) was named by 11 percent.

Thirty-seven percent of those polled said they did not think executions should be televised.

The poll, conducted from Jan. 24 to Jan. 26, had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.

Oh, and personally, I htink that it should be PPV and that the proceeds should go to fund some sort of anti-islam/anti-fundamentalism education fund. It'll never happen, but it would be oh-so-sweet poetic justice if it did.

Not that I'm against capital punishment, but I'd rather see him rot in prison for the rest of his life than martyr him like Braveheart.

I say don't publically execute him.

replace him with a double, and have the double play with the Al Qadia network.

Bin Laden becomes the biggest disgrace to Islam ever, and everyone does the opposite of him as a result.

There is a FDNY station in Chinatown that comes to mind. They took the heaviest losses in the attack. Tie him to a lamp post there.

People jumping from the 80-something'th floor of tower I and II to avoid burning to death and that fucker laughs about it? Seems pretty barbaric to me, too. HE got to watch his handiwork. We should get to watch ours. I'd pay a week's salary to see the fucker disemboweled.

That's tricky. I think the Geneva Convention prohibition is for actual prisoners of war. I'm sure that it would be argued that this state doesn't apply to him.

i'd say the last thing we need to do is make a martyr out of him. it'd be much better to have him simply go away with a fizzle quietly rotting in a cell the rest of his life than go out in a blaze.

I'd hope he won't make it through the capture process alive let alone make it back to the states as a prisoner.

But in such a case that he does make it, I hope they drop him off in Times Square after alerting the populace a good hour or two in advance. Let the good citizens of New York tear the fucker apart, literally.

Then you gather the pieces, wrap them in bacon, put them in a box and shit on them, then set up a display in the Smithsonian were any one can pay five bucks to piss on the remains.

They may not. Unfortunately, however, the U.S. DID sign the conventions..so....

On the other hand, OBL isn't a sovereign nation, or a legal combatant...we're not REALLY at war with him...

I still say fuck the moral high ground. I vote for a national holiday on the day of his execution and live broadcasting on ABC/BBC/Al Jazeera/Comedy Central/Disney/ cartoon network/Lifetime.

I'd rather have him rot for the rest of his life. No execution can rival the rest of your life in humiliation as you personally get visited by those who suffered the misfortune of being in such terror attacks. He can take that to the grave with him.
