Ugly guys and beautiful girls
This public service announcement was inspired by a comment made by somebody in the HoS about seeing a girl from high school who had "blossomed" into a beautiful woman, and being pissed that she was now going out with some (insert expletive here, we've all heard this story).
I can't speak to this particular case, because every case is different. However, I've heard guys recount similar stories in real life, and I'm sure we all have. So here's something you young teenaged guys need to understand:
That guy is with that girl because he was perceptive enough to see something that others did not.
Just keep that in mind the next time you wonder how some average-looking or even spudly-looking dude managed to hook up with some great-looking babe even if he's not rich. There are a lot of girls out there who are beautiful but don't dress, look, or act like it until somebody comes along and helps them find that beauty within themselves.
Of course, if you think I'm wrong, I'm sure you'll say so.

I will not understand how this happens.
Mostly because the nice shy mousy girl isn't really bad at all...she's just shy. I dunno...maybe people want Claudia Shiffer yet not realizing said women aren't exactly coming out of the woodwork thus ignoring the nice cute women?
Also then again it depends on taste too.

Hehehe. I wonder who you're talking about?
To clarify she was never ugly and neither is the guy she's with. He's a bad guy. I know him, his life is not going anywhere. It's a wonder he hasn't killed himself or others already. He's the living embodiment of everything bad anyone ever uses demonize the drug/alcohol crowd. Perhaps the only redeeming trait I can attribute to this guy is that he isn't physically abusive.
I'm not so shallow as this to be an Ugly Duckling story. I take no offense because the story can certainly be interpreted that way, however.

Your story may be different than what I'm talking about (another reason to frame my thread in general terms rather than naming names), but actually, some of the guys who do this "ugly duckling transformation" can indeed be opportunistic types. They see a "diamond in the rough", take advantage of her psychological insecurities to create a codependent relationship, and then become possessive and perhaps even abusive. I've seen that too, unfortunately. To clarify she was never ugly and neither is the guy she's with. He's a bad guy. I know him, his life is not going anywhere. I thought that was because he is a nice guy and the hot guy is a bastard.Darth Wong wrote:This public service announcement was inspired by a comment made by somebody in the HoS about seeing a girl from high school who had "blossomed" into a beautiful woman, and being pissed that she was now going out with some (insert expletive here, we've all heard this story).

I like to call it the Willow Syndrome, after the character of Willow on Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Look at season 1 Willow...now, look at Alyson Hannigan (the actress who plays her).

You know, I think I prefer guy # 1 version.
Because it is true, from a certain point of view.
This gal dumped a friend of mine for this shallow guy, and a year later, went back and had the gall to ask him to comfort her after the guy broke up with her. That's quite low.
On one hand, he's still likes her enough to want to comfort her, and move in on her. On the other, he has been hurt by her, and knows that she still doesn't want him.
Let him land on any Lyran world to taste firsthand the wrath of peace loving people thwarted by the myopic greed of a few miserly old farts- Katrina Steiner
I get that a lot. In my case a lot of people I meet are like "how the fuck is that dork going out with that hottie?". I had a co-worker who refused to believe my GF was really my GF and not some stripper I'd paid off. In my case I've almost always gone after the cute chicks, these are the ones that make you want to cuddle them and who with a little work can end up as serious lookers. They're almost always nicer than the hot chicks as well, more down to earth, less demanding, and just nicer to be with.

Everyone wonders how i got my wife.
common response is "How did YOU end up with someone pretty like her?"
I just tell them what i lack in looks i make up for in many ways. though my wife tells me i look good. All that matters to me.. Plus shes a 9 imo and i'm about a 6 ... *no 69 joke intended*...

Sweet jesus on a stick! Hey isnt that what we call easter?
Bah, I have an even worse problem. I had a female friend in the third grade I used to spend recess with, having fun, playing Power Rangers (yes, Power Rangers). Now, this is third grade in a Christian school so a romantic relationship was hardly on my mind at the time. Then I moved away, to end up where I am now.
Now, about a decade later, I happen upon my old school's website and see a picture of their Senior Class Officers from 2003. And, what do you know, strike me down with a bolt of lightning, there she is. And man, did she turn out well. Not exactly ultra-hot-supermodel, but she's more along the lines of aerius and his "cute" theory.
At any rate, this gets me thinking: had I never moved, I could've counted myself lucky enough to be her boyfriend, if not right now this moment, but perhaps at one point in time. We were friends in the third grade (or so I imagine), and she stayed at the same school, and had I never moved I would've 99.9% of been there until graduation too.
But, life didn't work out that way, and here I am now. Left to wonder "what could've been" had I never moved.
(Which, incidently, I have put a bit of thought into and even wrote an English paper about it, one which I am presently debating whether to expand upon, if for my own benefit and nothing else.)

Drop her an email, send a letter, or just give her a call and say hi. I occasionally meet classmates on the street who I haven't seen in 15 years and we all still remember each other somehow. Wonder no more, make contact with her and catch up on things, good things can happen.RogueIce wrote:But, life didn't work out that way, and here I am now. I'm tempted to spend some portion of my Spring Break down where I used to live, just to see how it's changed and all. But, aside from a strock of luck, I doubt I'll ever run into her.

Yeah, but you've got to admit, from season 3 to season 4, she went from cute and innocent to hot and drool-worthy fairly quickly. The transition was from "Yeah, I could fuck her and feel good about it" to "Jesus I wanna jump her right now." All it took was a different hairstyle and new clothes.Ghost Rider wrote:I am in full agreement with IB here.

The exact opposite seemed to happen with Buffy. She was waaaay sexier in the earlier seasons than she was in the college years.

No, a lot of them were already showing signs of being damaged goods by the end of high school. A lot of them tried so hard to get that perfect appearance that they neglected many other things in life such as "learning" and "actual healthy living" and traded them for short term appearance. Yeah, they probably thought that perfect tan during the winter months was a great idea at sixteen, but once they hit nineteen and their skin lookes like a fence lizard's hide...Ghost Rider wrote:Nothing mystifying about it.Galvatron wrote:What's even more mystifying is how so many of the hot chicks from high school ended up as bloated pigs.
I say they just find fatty foods and crumble.
And then they hit the fatty foods because their entire self-image is wrapped up in how nice their skin looks and it ain't lookin' too nice anymore. And that just accelerates the process. I saw some people a few months after graduation and they looked thirty years older, really saggy and worn out. Disturbing to say the least.
There's also the factor that I would not by any stretch have been considered cute in high school because I was both a late-bloomer had horrible acne. The acne is clearing up and I'm growing up. And that's just fine with me; my mom was the same way, and now she is in her fifties and can still pass as being in her late thirties. Can't do that if you're already worn out at twenty,

Sounds just like my co-worker's mom. He was around 20 at the time when this really good looking woman came by to pick him up from work. We all thought she was his older sister but the next day we we found out she was actually his mom. I was like "damn! you're shitting me!" since she did not look a day over 25.Mayabird wrote:There's also the factor that I would not by any stretch have been considered cute in high school because I was both a late-bloomer had horrible acne.
