If more than it would take 5 of 6 being four just to get a tie. If less then 5 of those undecided show up, and no one votes against their statements, then this thing goes down in flames, and with all the focus it's brought to the issue, mabye we'll finally legalize gay marriage.
You need a 2/3 vote to pass such an amendment, right? So if the rest of the Senate votes in the same manner, such an amendment won't pass. And considering that one third are already voting against, unless some of the undecideds and cop-outs vote for an amendment, the listed senators opposed differently, or the vast majority of unlisted senators vote for an amendment, then the amendment won't pass.

I believe that they just need a majority in the senate and then have to have two thirds of states ratify it.

You actually DO need 3/4 of states- but that shouldn't be too hard once it gets past the National Legislature; I heard that about 38 states already have "defense of marriage" acts, so if it survives congress its probably gonna be law.

The amendment has already lost.
Tally it up. All you need is 2 more to vote against the amendment and that brings the opposition to 35. That is more than a third, and the amendment dies.

Lieberman has come out against the amendment as well. He's one of the few Dems I might have expected to support it.
