This is something that scares me, but I just read an article by him that is actually has a lot of decent portions in it except for the occasional fundie overtones.

It's kind of shocking to see anything sensible come from him.

Thing is, he's an isolationsist. He hates us getting stuck in anything outside. As such he is in a position where for the moment mutual opposition of unwarranted acts, mad preemptive assaults, and this endless warring. He is constant in pointing one way, as it happens I find ourselves pointing that way to, for the moment.

If you dig deep enough down to his and your reasoning for not continuing this way, that's where old Pat is.

Even a broken clock manages to be right twice a day, and in this case, Buchanan's central argument gels with the realities of the situation. He may be a nut, but the Pearle/Frum prescription for the War on Terror is total lunacy and is now rightly being seen for the nonsense it is.

Let's put this another way: if even a lunatic like Pat Buchanan can see so easily what is wrong and make so many defensible points against them, that's a pretty bad sign for the neocon movement.

Yes indeed. He's far enough right wing that he broke away from the Republicans because he thought they were wussies. Which is why it's so shocking that he's talking sense.

It happens to him every now and then. I think it's one of the reasons he never manages to completely disapear from the political arena.
