This April 9 (Good Friday), some provinces here in the Philippines will have reenactments of Christ's crucifixion, complete with actual nailings on the cross and self flagellation....Darth_Zod wrote:no idea. i wouldn't be at all surprised in some of the 3rd world countries. *shrug*

Different from my family. I don't think any of us really want to go see it, but my dad has to as he's a minister and he knows the parishinors are gonna ask dozens of questions about it. My mom wants to go to support him, and she wants me to come along as well. I am still refusing however and if I am forced to go I'm going to get conveniently stuck in a bathroom stall or something...darthdavid wrote:I cant go to this movie. My family is probably going to the movies over the weekend but my mom won't let my sister see it. and i have to go to the theatre with her.

Well, if you want to blame anyone for this story being nauseatingly violent, blame the Roman Empire, who did nauseatingly violent things to people they considered enemies. All this movie does is portray what is in the Bible; too bad it describes Jesus being hideously tortured and killed. It is really funny to imagine Christians disliking this, since this horrifying, gory tale is the cornerstone of their whole religion. None of them complained about this in all the years they read the written version of it, on which the movie is based. I thought the horror, suffering and indignity of the whole exercise, and that it happened to one said to be the Son of God, was what made it such an immense sacrifice. If Christians are so offended, maybe they should get a new holy book, one that emphasizes "love thy neighbor" and the Golden Rule instead of whips, crowns of thorns and crosses.
For the glory of Gondor, I sack this here concession stand!
I just had a thought. Wouldn't Christ have been crucified naked? Interesting that a "shocking" and "controversial" film shys away from nudity. I guess people wouldn't be able stomach the fact that God had a wiener.
