Make sure you click on its link; it brings the story up on some weird car thing.

The film, which is rated R for violence, has been highly successful, especially considering its theme and the fact that it is spoken in Latin and Aramaic. It has made $23.6 million on its first day(wednesday), making it the fifth highest grossing wednesday release, and not too far behind Matrix:Revolutions($24.3 million)

I highly doubt most Christians will see it more than once.

But at any rate, you can rest assured knowng that Gibson isn't going to write a sequel.

Damned good for such a niche picture. But you have to keep in mind that its controversial. So everyone will want to find out what it is. Sort of like the Satanic Verses.

His next movie should be one on the Apocalypse, or Satan's fall. Although I am going to see Passion, I would pay to see those, especially the Apocalypse- good special effects.

Are you referring to Christians as a "niche"?

No, I think he's referring to the market of Christian movie-goers as a niche.

Gibson is impressive at one thing. He's been able to turn his faith into a money making enterprise. His gotten massive press coverage, constant debaate, and long kines of all sorts to come and pay him...see his movie.

Plus the merchandising. Some would call this crass. But how could you say that of someone this pious. What's wrong with selling replica nails for people (granted people were crucifixes with Jesus on them around their next). But I love the new bibles with Jim Caviezel on the cover, instantly made me think of the new copies of LOTR with Viggo Mortenson onthe cover. Interesting, a bible that makes me instantly think of a fictional fantasy, full of magic, redemption, and sacrifice...hmm.

One has to wonder how long it will be before we see the McDonald's Passion Filet o'Fish Happy Meals. Served on Fridays, naturally.

Fortunately, if those are ever produced, I won't see them. Because I never eat at McDonald's.

Altered Christ
i actually had a similar thought, but in a more disturbing vein.

Setting: 1970s era teen flick musical.

Opening: Hand bursts from the grave. suddenly diner music starts playing. "My messiah's back and he's, go-nna be trouble! doowa, doowa, my messiah's back!"
"It's you Americans. There's something about nipples you hate. If this were Germany, we'd be romping around naked on the stage here."

The best sequel title?

The Empire Strikes Back, of course. I slay myself...
