In case you've missed my earlier plugs for it, Starshatter is a space combat game which is something of a jack-of-all-trades. It doesn't do everything perfectly, but it does most things well, including:
Dynamic campaigns
Fly as a fighter or capital ship
Fighter missions include atmospheric combat
Newtonian OR modified physics models
Several AI difficulties, which are at least as fun to play against as others in the genre.
A number of different HUD and fully-usable viewpoint options.
Mostly-functional mission editor, some things will require you to text edit the files, but they aren't hard to learn.
Not included in this demo are full ship and weapon mod support.
