Aircraft Carrier trivia

This is from a pamphlet that the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) put out for visitors.

Some of this is a little dated since the crew complement should read men & women. Plus, with the remodeling done to provide more privacy I think there are technically a few more spaces than the number listed.

On average each crewperson:
Has a haircut every 3 weeks
Eats a 1/2 pound burger every 5 days
Eats 3 slices of bread per day
Drinks almost a pint of milk each day

Some people seem to be getting more than 3 meals each day

While underway there is usually some part of the ship's galley open for people to get something to eat. At the very least there are 4 meals available per day. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and midrats.

From what I hear, midrats are the uber-1337...

I read a book where the carrier Ranger gave out pizza at every midrats... *wishes he could serve on a ship like that* :D

The haircut about every three weeks is correct. While some people get their hair cut really really short while on deployment in most cases it isn't the shortness of a sailor's hair that's the problem. Everything has to be neat and trimed in the proper military manner and regardless of shortness that means very regular haircuts.

If we were in port I would get my hair cut every two weeks. While deployed most people would get their hair cut a little less often.
